Well my Regular Thursday night rides are getting dark before we leave now...temps are dropping but its the first time my daughter has joined me, She is an early to bed and early rise girl but no work for her Friday ....so for the first time in 5 years riding we hit the back roads together at night (along with another regular thursday rider....rest were heading away for the long weekend)

Only pics taken were leaving the workshop while we still had some light, almost arty type pics so thought I would share

Nice photos.

Our days are of course getting longer which I am enjoying . Wish we could all have the daylight evenings. It'll be back though.

I'm a nervous wreck whenever I'm riding with my daughter, but I cherish those rides just the same... With time and her having experience does the nervousness ever diminish, at least a little?

I taught my short legged wife (with no prior standard transmission experience), through 4 bikes and 5-6 years, and I never stopped worrying, though at the three year point she became a basically safe rookie rider (and leveled off there).  The problem that never went away was when unexpected/unforeseeable things came up, she could go into clutch/panic mode, and I'd have to talk her off the ledge (again).

I tried to get her to go in front, but she never had any idea where we were, or were going, so with her behind, I spent way too much time in my mirrors.  Putting her in front is so much easier to keep an eye on (in front on the inside of the lane, you behind in the outside of lane, and ready to motor ahead if necessary).

It took extra long to teach her to drive an automatic car too.

25 years later, in broad daylight, she hit a mail truck (while being operated) with her truck.  So there's that.

What I did with her I recommend for everyone:  NO joint ownership of vehicles ridden/driven by rookies.

It's not personal, it's just (good) business, and risk management.

I don't think multiple cars/bikes on a single ins policy holds the same risk as ownership but I'm not entirely sure about that.

Rose holds very nice lines, and is not over confident so is still on the look out for obstacles, that night I was lead and another friend was TEC so no need to panic..... Lance (TEC) made the comment she rides better lines that him

I Usually get her to lead as she reads the lay of the land well and can predict the corners well.....but I don't trust tail gating cars so I put myself there . She is a natural rider and did thousands of K's on the back of my bike and did some dirt riding first too

I am not sure how my son will go, does not have the natural skills in the car or bike so not sure I want him to ride...at least more time on the dirt first, he has already crashed my truck into my workshop wall turning it around.

Isn't it funny how 2 siblings can be so different. I have a son and daughter very much like yours. (Neither ride though)

Yup very different kids with the same upbringing

I am not saying there was no nervousness, The bike Rose started on had horrible old style bars and she used to run wide on corners etc, heart in mouth stuff...... swapped the bars for some dirtbike ones and it was like a different bike for her, so much better cornering

There was also a couple of passing maneuvers on her old 250 that she didn't quite have the power she thought she had...Some extra grey hairs.

But now the only thing that troubles her is gravel roads, she never dropped a bike on the road and I hope it stays that way
