Got the Silver Bullet out to blast out the carbs yesterday and came upon these forest rats in a field.

Rough winter for 'em here, over 150% snowpack.  They're fattening up on the green grasses.

By the time I'd got around to the other side of the bike, they'd decided they didn't appreciate my crashing their dinner party and turned their white side toward me in a group b.a..

The heavy snow up high is going to keep them in the valleys for a while this year.  I counted six carcii a few days ago before coming upon a fresh kill in the opposing lane pouring blood into mine.  Kinda gives ya the heebie jeebies.

EDIT:  Aaargh, don't know why PostImage made the pics teeny tiny.  There were prolly about 20 grazers.  May try a repost later.  Grrr.

I do it all the time. Go back into your post, and there has been added width & height. I just changed it to the stock size of 800 & 450, but blown up there is nothing seen. I could make them 3/4 (600 & 337), but just wanted to show what could be done.

Thanks, that was almost a painful process!  I must have originally linked to thumbnails.

I was hoping this colder and somewhat snowier WI winter would have killed 90% of all deer, but to no avail.   Road kill everywhere and new ones weekly on the main rural roads I drive 32 miles one way to work.  I bet in those country roads of 25 miles before Madison I see daily on average 7 dead deer alongside the roads, some days 5, some days 10 dead deer.  Two sections where I see weekly 3-4 dead deer within 200-300 yard long stretches I slow down to the speed limit of 55mph in hopes to swerve and avoid them or stop quicker?

an unheard of 83 degrees today first time over 80 this spring well above average temps but give it a week will change but hope not!

Exactly what I do, and with the same question mark in my mind!  I think it's the trajectory and speed of the camouflaged little bastards that makes 'em so cursed iffy.  That and the fact they're skittish and they'll change trajectory, speed and direction sometimes a couple times in one attempted crossing.  Still you're right.  Braking and eluding chances improve at or below the limit in known rat zones, and I'd rather smack one at 55 than 75.  I guess.   Undecided

DOW has been lagging here, seeing (and smelling) lotsa dead deer.
