Got back in the saddle yesterday. Haven't been on a Fat Lady since I got off last September 19th. The end result of that dismount was expensive and emotionally disturbing, won't lie about that. Was only a ten mile easy ride. Will be a while before (if ever) I will try any long distance or challenging rides. Gett'n back in the saddle was/is a big deal for me. Felt good. The spousal unit is still on pins and needles, may always be. Promised to ride defensively, though that didn't help much last September. It is, what it is. Most things we enjoy have some risk.
Ride safe, there's some crazy distracted folks on the road.

Terrific Ron! Maybe we can meet some Sunday morning for breakfast and a little ride. Been thinking about heading down your way on some of your nice KY back roads. Got a buddy up here with a new to him Indian that might be interested in joining. Shoot me a text of some Sundays that would work (golf on Saturdays).

We all have to crawl before we can walk, then run.
Nothing as bad as yours Ron, but I developed a bad knee a few weeks ago, and strength (and pain) issues kept me off my bike too. But I got out yesterday for a short run, with no problems.
The thing is, we expect to crawl before walking in our babyhood, but it seems to sneak back up on us in our oldhood.
At least I'm still pissing only when I want to. So there's that.

Got back in the saddle yesterday. Good to hear, however... What happened here? Haven't been on a Fat Lady since I got off last September 19th. Then end result of that dismount was expensive and emotionally disturbing, won't lie about that. Was only a ten mile easy ride. If you explained back in Sept I apologize for not keeping up (been fighting my own battles for the last few months - nothing health wise - and haven't been hanging around that much). Ride safe, there's some crazy distracted folks on the road. True That! We must always be vigilant/observant, prepared and have an out...

What happened here?
I have no memory of the event. What I remember was being on a super slab (4 lane) and coming into a section of construction with merging single lane traffic. I was in that lane riding the right hand side track. The eye witness a quarter mile back agrees with this. According to her, a dark SUV passed her and then me in the construction zone on the inside emergency lane. I honestly have no clue or memory of this. Although I do remember over hearing the 911 operator on someone's speaker and him asking if the biker was still alive. I couldn't see, my eyes were covered with blood. Yes, I was wearing my brain bucket. Someone said, don't know, he's face down. The dispatcher told them to turn me over and that's what they did. Unfortunately, they chose to roll me over on my left side while using my right arm. The left side, shoulder, ribs, collarbone, shoulder blade were all busted up and the right wrist was shattered. Didn't know my left lung had multiple punctures from ribs and that brain bleed/concussion seem to cause a bit of concern to the docs. I apparently passed out. All I do remember is an image of a concrete barrier just prior to an abrupt stop from 60+ mph. She thought the SUV may have clipped my mirror or handle bar as it went by me. The SUV didn't even slow down according to her. I woke up about a day and a half later (I think). Have a very foggy memory of Willow and old2Soon visiting. Those visitors really raised my spirits. The list of injuries and broken bones is too long to list but, I was pretty messed up. Three surgeries and one hell of a lot of physical therapy has got me back to about 90% of where I was. Yes, it's great to be able to get back in the saddle. Rams

Ron,
Atta boy! Tough thing to get through, but looks like you're about there. Impressive!!! Like many have said, being off the girl a long stretch, not to mention surgeries and recuperation, will let everything atrophy, so naturally it will take time and effort to restore you... You are a big boy, and you know all that very well... Still, it is good to read about another small step taken on the long road to recovery... and this step is part of the end-game! We're all proud to see you at it again! Good luck and lots of patience, my friend, soon you'll be back at it with the rest of us kids, baffling and bewildering all the grown-ups with our antics, while we do what we do! Welcome back!!!

That is great news Ron! I know you have worked hard to make that happen after your get-off last September.
Remember, skills may be a little dusty or foggy after all this time and the bump you took to your head. You have no one to impress but yourself. FWIW though, I am impressed that you have made such rapid recovery. That has a lot to do with attitude for sure.

Thanks Jerry. I am riding with a lot more awareness and caution (I think). That has not taken any fun out of riding my fat girl. There was never any doubt in my mind that I wouldn't ride again. Heck, I bought her in early January and had to have Terry test ride her for me. Didn't have the range of motion or strength then. For those who have never had physical therapy, know up front it's gonna hurt and push through the pain if you ever want to get back to where you were. Thanks to all that helped provide me with support and motivation. Rams
