I have all my stuff on at least double surge protection.

But I'll give you another tip.  When the huge storms are about to hit overhead, turn all that stuff off.

You don't need to see it on the computer, you can look out the widow.  Or even run around outside..... with a long steel pole.   Grin

AND UNPLUG IT.

And move the plug at least 12 inches away from the socket.

closest lightning strike was 30 feet away in backyard struck our huge 100+ year old burr oak tree a few years ago and went from top down to ground on one side burned off ASAP about a foot wide of bark and a one inch incision in the tree itself all the way to the ground, killing a big limb up top as well never to see another leaf and no way to cut it down slowly breaking off small branch by small branch at a time.

Dennis,

That's precisely why we've radically altered our travel plans! We ran into rain on our original course, then left central IL and headed for southern AZ! I just took a pic of the sunrise this morning and a shower just off to the west... Sprinkles on our gals now, and... It would appear there is just no escaping moisture this season!!! Mercifully for us, however, no ka-booms and bright flashes of lightning! Keep yer head down and your powder dry, my friend!

Rob,

We're in Safford at the moment, headed for Pine Top (near Show Low) for tonight, as I'm gonna show Jerry 'The Beast' today. Payson the next night (after 'standing on the corner'), then Kingman Saturday evening, following a ride down Route 66 through Seligman. After that we'll be headed for St. George, UT, where I've rented a house for four nights... Unfortunately, due to the season and all, rooms have been tight, so I've taken the unheard-of precaution of making reservations in all of those places... and I can't change any of them without expensive consequences! If you could manage a meet-up at any of those places, we'd love to have you join us!!!

You going to Zion Bruce?

Paul,

(Dennis, I apologize for the hijack!) Yes indeed, one of several reasons for staying in St. George for a few nights is it's proximity to Zion, the north rim of the Grand canyon, and other interesting locations... Zion is also one of my favorite places to go gander at!!! Who knows, I may just haul-off and take a pic or two...

Somewhere on my financial priority list is a whole-house surge protector, which, at US $52-250, costs less than my house insurance deductible.  My electronics are already plugged into a decent quality surge protector power bar, but I don't want to have to replace large appliances, etc., when their control boards fry.

Amazon search "whole house surge protector"

It's O K there Bruce!  cooldude Let me address a couple things here. I have the puter T V surround sound and the modem and the speakers on surge protection. Near as I can tell that lighting strike was within a block or less of my casa. BUT surprisingly enough all it took to git my puter back wuz what I stated in the O P.
On to a bit sadder news. Just in Missouri last night thunder storms hail and tornadoes pounded an area from Joplin to Jefferson City. 3 people died in Golden City from the storms. My local news also mentioned that in Oklahoma City Ok. someone drove around a barricade at a flooded area and died cuz they CHOSE to go around a barricade meant to save their life.  Cry
Bruce-lotsa folks here sides me are curious and desire to be updated on yer travels. I dasn't feel hijacked!  2funny RIDE SAFE.

North rim is great.

Zion is my favorite National Park.

I'll be there for a couple of days soon.

uh-oh, I think I felt the earth's axis shift. Bruce is planning, and making reservations ?  2funny the plan sounds most excellent ! I'm excited for Jerry to see these places. I feel sad that you guys will only an hour away and I won't be able to join in the festivities. These holiday weekends just kick my butt anymore. By the time I get off Saturday I'll be dragging ass and lucky to recoup for the next 2 days. You guys take care and keep on enjoying life !

Had one of those fronts headed east last night coming through.   The TV was interrupted with a severe Thunderstorm Warning till midnight.   This time they got it right.  Though overcast, the wind was calm and not stirring the leaves on the trees.   We could see the front moving toward us at a rapid pace though the sun was just over the horizon.   As we sat inside the front hit and all of a sudden, trees were being bent over, debris was flying and all hell broke loose.   The wife ran for our most interior room.

Being reared in tornado alley teaches those with any common sense to take precautions.   She's much smarter than me.  I didn't observe any twister tails and don't believe we had one but the wind blew from one direction and then another.   No doubt Mother Nature was letting us know of her presence.    Our local airport reported winds exceeding 75mph.

Spent this morning cleaning up the place and returning yard furniture, trash cans and other items to my neighbors.   Still don't know who the large green umbrella belongs to that was stuck through my back yard fence.   Would never want to get caught in such an event while riding my fat lady.
