Tire Siping?

Has anybody heard or have direct experience with siping a motorcycle tire?

I have no first or second hand knowledge, but I suspect sipes would dramatically improve traction in icy conditions, just like it does with car tires. If I were doing it I would definitely have the sipes go from side to side rather than in the same direction as tire rotation, to prevent squirming while cornering. I DO know that OEM D206's have terrible traction on hard packed snow, however.

Well, a the Valk motorcycle tire is basically similar to a grooved slick.  With all the comments about improved traction and braking of a dark side tire I got to thinking of how to improve the wet weather handling and braking of the "grooved slick" Valk tire.  One way would be to sipe the tire.  I was just hoping that someone had or heard of direct experience.  I ran across the same information doing a Google search along with the picture you posted.  However I don't recall any information on siping cruiser tires specifically.  For what it's worth I ride almost year around but there can be frost on the roads this time of year and this is also our rainy season.

Hey Farther.......try it, see what it does, its been done on bikes but not very often I suspect, and info on effectiveness wont be plentiful or reliable, so try it and let us know, that way youd be the expert

Seems like it was left up in the air whether or not it was a good and useful thing to do.
