No, not that kind of lucky  Undecided I took Brenda to an Eye doctor appointment in Phoenix yesterday. Traffic was surprisingly good. We made good time with little of any annoyances. But, on the the way home it was a different story. Traffic was also light then and I was able to get in the HOV Lane and put the cruise control on. As we were almost thru the metropolis a cop came up behind me, so I moved over. He me over with me. UhOh ! He then lights me up. There was no good place to pull over, so I continued on for another mile or so till I could find a safe place. He was a nice, courteous young man. He asked if I new what the speed limit was. I sheepishly answered 75 ? Nope, it was 65 on this section. Being that I had the cruise set at 80, I was pretty sure I was screwed. After much checking my license, registration, insurance, etc. he comes back and asks why I wasn't wearing my seat belt. Crap, there's another ticket. In the end, he wrote up a warning.  Smiley So, a possible $300 in fines and 6 points was reduced to zip.

Rob,

Congratulations! Looks like you dodged a big ol' bullet aimed squarely at your wallet! The time for the warning to lurk out there as a threat is not nearly as bad as the actual ticket(s) would have been, so I'd be counting my blessings, as I think you are!!! Yeah, good cops are a good thing, for sure... Once upon a time their moto was 'Protect and Serve'... today for many, I'm afraid, it's 'Find and Fine!' Yesterday's law enforcement officers in many cases have become little more than armed revenuers...

DDT

P.S. Hope the news at the eye doctor's place was good for Brenda!

Thanks Bruce  cooldude It was pretty much a push, neither bad nor good. They have shuffled her to a different specialist. It’s looking like she is going to end up getting a cornea transplant. (At least that’s a butcher’s diagnosis) On the 4 hour drive back after the excitement of the law enforcement, we talked about that possibility. I haven’t read up on it, but evidently she has. She’s mostly concerned about having a dead persons eye in her. She seems to wonder if the dead person will see what she is looking at. (Obviously she is much more “spiritual” than I am) I would have never even thought about that.

I’m sure it will all work out. Just a matter of getting shuffled to the correct kind of doctor. Thanks for your concern, I know it will mean a lot to her. (And me)  cooldude

Unfortunately, you are absolutely correct in this assessment  Angry Here in the great state of Texas (or at least here in East Texas) our once proud Department of Public Safety or "State Troopers"  police who were always the pinnacle of professionalism have become nothing more than speed trap queens. You'll rarely (if ever) see them out on the open highways, but they're routinely watching several local speed traps. Their top priority is no longer "Public Safety", but rather revenue collection.

How's this for getting lucky - a while back Kali got her first red light camera infraction. (In mommy's name since the car is in mommy's name)

We watched the video and yeah, she TECHNICALLY was in the wrong, she didn't fully stop while making a right on red while the opposing lane had a green arrow, so she knew it was safe to do so.

While mommy and I were debating if we should pay it or just ignore it (There was some debate as to what, if anything, they could do in Texas if you didn't pay it) the Texas congress passed, and the governor signed, a bill making red light cameras illegal in the Republic of Texas.

The city that issued Kali's first infraction issued a statement that they would be immediately shutting down all red light cameras, and shutting down the payment system, no outstanding tickets needed to be paid.

Talk about lucky timing!

Ok, she won't be getting the dead person's eye.  The cornea is just a clear protective layer, like a window, at the front of the eye; it's not really responsible for vision.  Now, if she were to get the dead guy's retina, that's a whole other discussion.

I know that, and you know that. Getting Brenda, who feels she can channel dead people, to know that is a whole different story.  Smiley

I like good cops

They are out there, just harder to find.

I did a overnight trip back from Ga to home one year.

Traveling at night gave me low traffic and less chance of ticket.

Worked good till just north of Hartford about 8am, when a CT State Trooper lite me up.

I'm sitting in my car, trying like all get out, to remember the last name my towns ex officer that became a Ct Statie.

I'm sitting there going "What Scott's last name, crap, what's Scott's last name." as I roll the window down.

The Trooper goes "Good Morning, Trooper Smith (not his real name)  sir, can I have your license and registration"

I look at him and say "SCOTT"  "How you doing?"

He's like "Bill, what you doing heading north this early?"

I couldn't believe it, it was Scott.

I told I started last night in Ga and was just getting home.

He laughed, let me go and said "It's your lucky day."

He was right.

Great guy and great cop.

Rob, hoping everything works out good with your MUCH better half.

I went to school with a guy named Faistenhammer.

Hands down the toughest kid in the school.  Middle linebacker.  If he thought you had it coming, he could hammer your face for you.

So I'm sitting next to him in his hot rod, and he sees an Island (home town) cop ahead and says, watch this.

He nails it up next the the cop in the oncoming lane (no one oncomming) and signals to the cop he wants to race.  The cop shakes his head no, and lights us up.  Me, I'm dumfounded (WTF????)

So the cop walks up, and they are old friends, and after a few laughs we get no ticket (or even any warning or rebuke).

Just a couple years later, Mr Faistenhammer becomes an Island cop, and volunteers with the downriver Detroit multi department drug task force where he is first through the door with his AR180 many times, with many awards and decorations.

Good guy to have on your side.  But on that night in his car, I wished I wasn't by his side.   Grin
