I really don't think there's any training to prepare an officer for this.   This one (and the paramedic) show their true colors and compassion.

Wow.

Another way I see this expressed - after a natural disaster (storm, etc.) - the worst  would be trying to price gouge you for everything they could (NC put an stop to this) - the best - you would see strangers helping victims with no thought of compensation - just because the victims needed help.

Seth,

Yep, many do prove that that particular calling is a special one, and that many, many in their ranks are indeed quality professionals. Like with any portion of any population, unfortunately, there are some who taint the 'overall impression' for all, and that is just the way it is.

I'm a bit critical whenever I have an unpleasant encounter with any 'unfair' treatment, but truth be told, nearly all have been rather impressive when analyzed under the cold, harsh light of objectivity! This is a good story, with a happy ending... Wonder how many don't have such an outcome...? Glad there are good guys & gals 'on the job'... probably could use some more!

With the safe haven laws in place, who ever left that infant to die should be charged with attempted murder at a minimum.  Why not leave it with the firemen?

+1.  At a minimum.  I'm sure there are those out there that would argue social circumstances led to the perpetrator doing this.   Teenage pregnancy and shame,  incest,  poverty,  rape.   No excuses for this.

Saw more on the story this morning,  one of the professionals mentioned the baby responded to them as if she had never been shown love before...
