Watch Porsche's 919 Evo smash the Nurburgring lap record

Anyone ready for a test drive ?

They say race drivers are not athletes, this proves that wrong. Watch till the end because the fastest speeds are on the final straight away......very cool.

Corners like it's on rails!
369 kph in the straights is the highest speed I saw. That's 229.3349906774394 mph!

Very impressive!

Race drivers are definitely athletes.  I read that Formula 1 drivers typically have a sustained heart rate of about 180 BPM through an entire a race.  And a comparison of a wide range of athletes found that the motocross riders had less body fat than any other category.

I would LOVE to experiance a real race car at speed , as the driver ! Of course - in proper safety gear and after an appropriate training session ( both classroom and track) .

Some internet friends of mine met in the mountains of NC (back in the late 90's), and we went over to Pigeon Forge to the "race track" and drove the cars you needed a driver's license for - man that was fun !!! The adreneline was pumping for all of us . This fat boy was good enough to keep a skinny guy from passing him :)
I'm sure my MC experiance was helping there.

A few years ago I signed up and did the Richard Petty Driving Experience.   Was a kick ass experience but I got no where near the speeds of the Porsche.   My fastest lap speed was 156.4 mph at KY Speedway.   I was second fastest for the day, the fastest guy beat me by 4/10ths of a mph.

For what it's worth, those NASCARs are set up to turn left and it's an effort to hold them straight in the straightaways.

not so sure I could handle over 200 mph, but would be nice to do say 175-180 once in my life....

I think we all remember as youngsters taking dad's car out and flooring it to see what it would do right?  I got my dads 1976 caprice classic up to 110 mph before backing off running out of road and steering wheel started to shack pretty bad back and forth at the time well over 120K miles on it so was not really meant to go at those speeds.....  Got my 1984 magna up age 18 or so around 105 mph and backed off as well, felt pretty light in the front end but had some left to give.

speed kills have not gone over 95 mph since.

..

150 in a Jaguar XJS V12. The front end started to move around a bit too much. Looking forward it looked like the front was drawing a circle.  :D

155 on a Honda ST1300. Steady as a rock.

17 years old driving a tractor.

A tractor towing a trailer load of corn.

A tractor towing a trailer load of corn going downhill I had taken out of low range.

A tractor towing a trailer load of corn going downhill I had taken out of low range even though I had been specifically told not to.

A tractor towing a trailer load of corn going downhill I had taken out of low range even though I had been specifically told not to and the trailer increasing it's whip from side to side.

Fortunately it was a fairly short hill.

A friends kid had his GPS locked on his highest speed, which showed 198 MPH. He crashed and died  on that 'Busa!

As a young 2nd LT in the Army, I bought my KZ1000.  Had owned and ridden several motorcycles prior to that but, nothing like that KZ1000.   On the ride back to Ft. Sill from the dealership, I got a ticket for speeding.  The LEO reduced the speed over the posted limit, said he'd have to arrest me and take me to jail if he wrote the real number down.

A year or two later I rode the KZ to a men's slow pitch round robbin tournament that lasted until about 2:00 AM Monday morning.   Well, I had to lead PT back on post at 6:00 at Ft. Riley.   So, I mounted back up and headed back to post giving her all the throttle the road would allow.

Saw the lights of an approaching car from the opposite direction on the two lane highway I was on.   Before I past that LEO his lights came on and I started letting the KZ slow down without hitting the brakes.   Took a while to get down to speed and for him to get turned around and catch back up with me.   I knew I couldn't out run his Motorola so, I simply pulled over and waited.  Had my license out laying on the tank and my hands in a clear and open position when he approached me.

He walked up to me and shined his very bright flashlight into my eyes then down to my hands and my license laying on the tank.   He said, "I don't need that, I just wanted to see what would go that damn fast."   He took me back to his patrol car just to show me the 143 reading he got me at.

True Story.   He was a young deputy sheriff that was into bikes and let me go with a warning.  He said, I called a speeding motorcycle in, right now every LEO in the area is looking for a bike doing a very high speed.   I strongly recommend you take a very cautious and slow ride home.   I took his advice.
What I have learned is to, Never ride faster than your Guardian Angel can fly.

From a Looong time ago.

Honda CX500
500cc, V twin, water cooled, shaft drive, 112mph (not). Not a patch on the Laverda but a great despatch bike. Comfortable saddle (riding 1,000 miles a  week), low maintenance. Had this for about 2 years. Very early one morning in the company of a friend on a Suzuki GS1000 I raced down the Edgware Road in North London. Keith got chased by a Flying Squad (police) car and was stopped doing 130mph in a 30mph zone. He didn't get a ticket they just wanted to make sure the bike hadn't been stolen.

like said, speed kills.  See no real need anymore to do over 90 mph either passing or superslab out west where some areas the speed limit is 85 mph I think...   then again,  the autobahn no speed limit and hear the death/accident rate is pretty low as compared to main hwys. around the US.

One blowout on a tire car or cycle at that speed over 110 mph or more and will be lucky to not get injured
