60 miles West of Chicago!

« on: June 30, 2019, 10:18:24 AM »

Here are links to the pictures from my trip to Dublin, Ireland and the Isle of Man. Spent a couple of days in Dublin and then off to the Isle of Man for the TT races. Unfortunately, the weather on the Isle of Man didn't co-operate and out of 12 days on the island there was only 3 days of practice, qualifying and racing by the time I left. When they weren't racing we went sightseeing. But what racing we did see was fantastic. In addition, the house we rented was only a couple hundred yards from the course. We were at mile 37 of the 37.7 mile course. I'd like to think I got some great pictures and hope you enjoy them. My only regret, I didn't get a good picture of the TT Zero Bikes, the electric bikes, in motion. In fact, my only pictures of the TT Zero Bikes was the one that broke down and coasted to the Race Marshals across the road from my position. Problem was, you never heard them coming and they were usually past you when you did hear. Guess I'll have to go back in a couple of years and try again.

Here is a couple of interesting tidbits. From a stop the lap speed for sidecar winners was 119+mph; for the Electric bike, a new track record of 121+mph.

Enjoy.

What a great trip that must have been.   cooldude

Thanks for sharing.

When I watch the TT races on video, I have to hold on to my chair arms (especially around those stone walls).

It takes an experienced rider to truly understand just how amazing (and dangerous) that racing is.

On my bucket list to ride that track

Looks like you had a great trip

I get green with envy every year when a friend starts posting pics on FB of his trip and videos of his riding on the track, rents a bike and stays with family and tours around

one day Smiley

You must have a very nice camera since going by you say 120 mph one would think the cycles would show up blurry?

Nice pics and am sure memories and pictures in your mind that will last a lifetime.

what are those cycles with custom side cars attached?  Is it for not flipping over being more stable around the corners or is that a special class of cycle racing?

The camera I used for the bike pics is my Cannon 30D DSLR and the lens is a Cannon EF 18-135mm f1:3.5 - 5.6. I also set the camera for sports/action which would shoot multiple frames as well as set the aperture and shutter speed (usually 1/400 to 1/700 of a second).

For the bulk of the sightseeing pics I use my Fuji Point and Shoot digital that I wear around my neck.

For the selfies, my phone.

The sidecars are a completely separate class.

Chrome--very cool pics.  That trip must have been fantastic.  Just looking at the lean angles of some of those bikes makes me shudder.
