Quad Horns

I've been trying to get a hold of BF for a while, no luck.   I went out and got 2 Rivco Electric low and high tone chrome horns. Much better sound and fairly loud. I did hook it up to a relay with a 30 amp fuse and it has been problem free. My question is, if I get another pair and add them to the existing pair, will that work.   I'm thinking it would since I have the relay, but I don't want to go out and spend another $79 if its not going to work. I looked at BF's install instructions and it shows only one relay and 4 horns. So I'm guessing that if I hook up 2 more horns I should be fine. I'm also asuming that it will be much louder. The Rivco's are 118 db.

Bagel Boy--where you puttin' all those horns???  Reason I went with BF's quad horn was to get rid of the big ole Rivco hanging on the front. BF's unit hangs below the engine, out of site and works like all get out.  I even scares me when I touch it off.   Would not want two of the Rivco.

Heard Bill F has been weathering some health issues, but I think he is still answering PM's.

I've seen him on Facebook quite a bit and it looks like he is about ready to go on the road again. I'm very happy with my quad horns.

That depends on how much current they actually use.  They recommend a 30A fuse, but I suspect the actual current to be considerably less.  The fuse used by Buick for their quad horns (four horns, each producing a different note) that I use on my Valkyrie is 15A.  I suspect your 30A relay (and fuse, presumably) will be fine for the horns.  If I were doing what you are wanting to do, I would use 12 ga wire just to ensure full voltage to the horns.

The way decibels work is that doubling the number of sound-producing devices adds 3 decibels to the sound pressure measurement.  I.e., if Rivco says their dual horn setup produces 118 dB, two sets of dual horns will produce 121 dB.  Perceived loudness is a different thing.  For something to sound twice as loud, it must produce 10 dB more sound pressure.

They aren't big old Rivco's. They are small snail horns that work pretty good and sound like a trumpet. I'm just trying to find out if I add 2 more will I achieve a higher and louder sound. I need some tech info before ordering a couple more.

I had 4 fiam freeway blasters on 1 relay, pulled 17 amps on the bench.A 30 amp relay should be able to handle that without any trouble.

thanks for the tip on these from harbor freight, called locally and said had 1 left in stock but usually carries them monthly at least.  He said they can even take the 20% off coupon and be 7.99 vs. 9.99 hard to beat 8 bucks if they work for a few years at least.  Where did you mount them and did you use their relay and bracket and am sure you have to supply the wiring?

I used them to replace the car horns I had mounted yrs ago. one stopped working.

Be careful with the Harbor Freight dual set.
They work well and are pretty loud as stated, BUT, the chrome sucks, I had a set on my last bike and in less than a year the chrome was peeling off.
Mounting them underneath like the quad set up would work just fine.

almost two yrs for mine, they started fading, didn't peel though.

I have a set of BigBF Quad horns on my 01 Interstate (PO bought them), and I have a set of Autozone High and Low pair on my 99 Interstate.
I really can't tell a whole lot of difference between the two bikes.
I put on the Autozone pair about 10 years ago, they are black plastic and are mounted under the bike just like the Quad Horns.

reason for marine horns? They have a lower frequency output than the two front horns. The lower frequency travels a further distance than the higher frequency car type horns.  all together pretty loud and gets peoples attention even with their windows up.
