flat tires

what is it with my family in having flat tires on 3 vehicles and a bicycle lately?  Is there that much crap all over the roads around me causing flats right and left?  I think besides this stint of flats,  the last flat tire we had was over a decade ago.  There is fricking construction all over the place unavoidable seems worse all around this year vs. any prior years for sure.

My wife has had now 3 flat tires on her bicycle all in 2 months one just today again,  my truck has a slow leak (small piece of metal) stuck near sidewall unable to fix that (tires are near bald anyways) I just keep putting in 6-8 psi every 2 weeks otherwise TPMS light comes on in dash am trying to get them past wear bars and replace before winter of course,  kids pontiac vibe rear tire got NO JOKE a fricking big thorn (big thistle stalk dime size diameter) put plug/patch in it this overnight Friday night into Saturday morning and he was only on the road drove it 1 mile to school is all on Friday, kids sonata screw in rear tire not worth repairing as well tires were 3/16" tread near replacing time and did not like those OEM tires anyways sucked in winter and were getting squirrelly even on dry pavement so put on all 4 new tires.

Knock on wood is my turn on a cycle/scooter - better NOT BE!!!     I will need 3 new Valk tires come next spring so trying to make them last as well.....    Tire mfgs. are my friend - NOT!!

Flats on da bike are no fun.
Reminds me of a time a small group of us were riding up in Canada on a Sunday in November.
Now These bastards don't use sand on their roads.. they use super sharp granite chips.

One of our guys had tires that were more than 1/2 gone. I always carry a plug kit & a compressor.
I plugged his tires no less than 6 times that day.

The last hole, I  could put my pinky finger in it.

I glued & twisted 6 plugs together. Smothered glue all around & in the hole. Then had another buddy light up the whole mess with my lighter as I rammed it in.

That dam plug held but, it had a very very minor leak.
We had to pump up his back tire every 20 minutes & we made it home.

no granite chips around me, but every single road uses crushed VERY sharp pea gravel slivers and that is what did my last cycle Avon Cobra in having 15+ tiny bubbles holes all over the middle of the tread even had 2-3000 miles left of rubber to go. 

Has anyone ever had a thistle stalk stuck in a vehicle tire before near dime sized diameter, and this was in the road 1 mile from home he must have gotten it.
