sissy bar and associated stuff...

I was looking on the classifieds... there's a fellow over there (sm0ke)  looking for
a sissy bar for his Valkyrie so that his son who has cerebral palsy can ride... here's
his post...

So, my son has cerebral palsy. Because of his disability I sold my last bike to help get his new wheelchair.  He loves bike rides and I just got a 97 valkyrie super cheap. It's got a back seat but no back rest for that seat, he has to have back support. Anyone have a sissy bar or know where to find one at a halfway decent price. I'm on a tight budget, because his needs come first.  The bike is just a small luxury for us.

Anywho... not everyone looks at the classifieds... I bet between all of us we could come up
with the parts... maybe even some armrests? This picture of an eBay sissy bar shows how
just a sissy bar might not cut it... sm0ke - if you read this - do you have the little ears
in this picture? A pad would be needed too...

Mike, I already pm'd him to see if he has the mounts. I have a sissy bar with pad in real nice shape but no mounts or bolts.

I was waiting on his reply but you beat me to this idea. I think we can get all he needs shipped to him pretty fast.

I sent another pm to smoke. I told him that I have s sissy bar and pad to donate to the cause and still no response.

He's only posted a couple of times, maybe he doesn't know about PM, or maybe he
hasn't logged on in a while, or... ?

I checked his profile, he has an email listed.

If this works out I think I could get a set of armrests to add to the deal...

-Mike "if he thinks that would help..."

Just a bump to help make it easier for Smoke to find it

Just got a call from Earl of Pensacola. He has a pair of mounting brackets. No bolts. So if these are needed we probably need the 6 or 8 bolts that hold it to the rail and to the sissy bar

Sm0ke

Sorry about late replies. Been busy the last week or so.  I did fi ally get back to all my nessages

Chrisj CMA

OK update......I will have all the parts (except maybe a couple bolts) The bolts that are probably needed are two of the four that connect the mounts to the inside of the fender rails.  If someone has these bolts and they can ship them to Smoke that would be great (pm me for the address).  If not I have them on order with ProCaliber but that will delay him being able to use the parts until I get those parts in..

I can ship everything except the missing bolts tomorrow.  Mike, do you really have an armrest set up to send?  If you do, pm me and Ill give you smokes address I dont want to post it without his ok.  He may get on here and do it himself, that would be great.

No problem.  Were trying to get it all together brother....We want your son to get his rides!

I hate the feeling like this is some kind of charity lol. But this is honestly one of the coolest things random strangers have ever done for us. My address is

Just got back from Earls. We have the little chrome bolts for the sissy bar but none of the four for the fender rail. Im going to ship what I have tomorrow.  The sissy bar and pad plus mounting brackets and small chrome bolts.  If someone has the bolts that go to the fender rail go ahead and send them, if not I'll send them when they come in

Jack B

Great job to all of you that helped smoke
What a wonderful group.

smOke , it's not charity , It is caring.  Had I not been up north , I would have sent the bolts. You will not find a better brotherhood.

Those bolts are the same as what's already on the bike.

Looking at the parts fish it seems like there are shorty bolts that look separate from the rail mount bolts. I'd gladly be wrong because that means smoke is good to go

OK.  I misread.  You mean the bolts that hold the brackets to the grab bars.

Yep. They are cheap if no one has some to spare I'll put the order in tomorrow with pro caliber

All of a sudden, there might be more than one set of armrests...
Jeff's (Chrisj) wife and my wife both have armrests for when they
are riding with us, and they really like them... we'll get this
figured out and post back here...

Smoke this is what the arm rest looks like in case you havent seen them yet.  My grand kids like them too.

Sissy bar is shipped will be there Thursday. If anyone can send the mounting bracket bolts (the larger ones that secure the brackets to the inside of the grab rails) to smoke now it will speed things up. Otherwise, I have some on order and will send them on when I get them.

Sm0ke

The armrests are awesome. It would probably help too, but this all seems too much for me. I'd be happy to buy them, or something.

Hey Smoke, dont let all this get to you, just let it get your soul as to how nice these guys are on here. about 6 or 7 years ago my son in laws house burned down, these guys had him all fixed up with some cash so he could get another place to live. and when i say some cash it was a bunch more than just some... these guys are the best of the best. i sold my valk in 2013 but frequent here a lot because i feel these guys are family to me.

Best thread in a very long time, awesome!

Ok an update.

Smoke dodged a bullet, almost had to get rid of the bike. So, now that everything is back on track. I sent Smoke the bolts, they are supposed to be there Saturday. If the armrests got there he should be able to get things installed this weekend.

Great news Jeff.  :cooldude:

I was worried he would have to give up his bike.

I'd like to see some pictures once everything is installed and some with his son sitting on the bike.

Sm0ke, how small/large is your son?  Can he reach the passenger pegs easily, or is it a stretch?

Here's what I did to raise the stock pegs.  The lower pegs are Interstate pegs, which stick out farther, allowing the upper pegs to clear the passenger's ankles
