That being said... the gun laws in California are so restrictive that we are not that far from confiscation.

For example, since early 2018 you can only buy ammo in an authorized gun dealer (forget buying online!). You got show an ID and you also go through a background check.

When you buy a gun (handgun or rifle, doesn't matter), first you have to possess a FSC (Firearms Safety Certificate). Then you go through a background checks with the DOJ and if that goes well, you still got wait 10 business days to finally get the gun.

CCWs are pretty much impossible to get if you live in the SF Bay Area (of course, unless you donate money to the local sheriff: https://www.mercurynews.com/2011/12/10/santa-clara-county-sheriff-draws-legal-fire-for-way-she-hands-out-concealed-gun-permits/).

To make things even worst, in California you cannot carry openly, unless it is a rifle. But then again, you cannot carry a loaded gun (rifle or handgun).

You also cannot carry a gun loaded inside of your car if you are in a public place (https://www.wklaw.com/carrying-a-loaded-firearm-pc-25850). It has to be in a box in the trunk (again, unloaded).

IIRC, there are 2 counties that consider having a magazine with bullets the same as carrying a loaded gun!!!

Oh, yeah... let's not forget the magazine limit of only 10 cartridges...

I saved the best for the last: you can only buy guns that are part of the roster of approved guns. But they passed a law requiring micro-stamping of cartridges that is technologically impossible, which means we are stuck with years old guns (i.e. approved before the law).

Wanna buy a Sig Sauer P320? A Glock gen 4 or 5? Forget it! Not part of the roster and it will never be.

Just out of curiosity, would these new laws (or old laws) affect someone who loads their on ammo?  You could make your own bullets.  But you still have to buy primers I suspect. And of course powder.

I'm no lawyer so...

But the law states "California also prohibits the possession, sale, offer for sale, or knowing transportation of a INSERT_ALL_FUN_AMMO_HERE...".

My guess is that if you make your own ammo but it falls within the illegal items, you would be breaking the law for 'possession'.
