3 Twisted Sisters

While in TX to see a High School Classmate and a couple of other friends, I took the opportunity to ride the "3 Twisted Sisters," in Texas Hill Country. To tell you the truth, I was not very impressed, overall. In a 175 mile round trip from my Motel in Junction, there was only about 15 miles of really good corners, and probably 25 - 30 miles of fairly exciting riding, and none of either type were more than 4-6 miles steady. I would not recommend taking a special trip here for this ride, but if I were passing through and had some extra time, I might do it again. I rode clockwise from Junction, East on I-10, South on US 83, West on TX 41, and South on Ranch Road 336 to the Town of Leakey, TX. This section was the best riding for me, but you should be well aware that some of it is Open Range country, and there will be livestock in or near the roadway. I also had 4 encounters (none close) with deer on this road. I then rode from Leakey to Camp Wood on Ranch Road 337, and then North on TX 55 and RR 335 to TX 41 West to US 377 North into Junction. All 3 roads had "some" sharp curves and a LOT of steep grades, and while the best parts definitely out-did anything we have in Florida, they can't hold a candle to Western NC and Tennessee. On another note, the roads out here have a very coarse texture, and if you go down, you are going to have a world-class case of road rash. They are somewhat bumpy, but not to the extent that I would call annoying. This is just MY opinion, and YMMV.

I was in Granbury for a rally for my ST group many years ago. I rode the 275  or so miles to ride the 3 sisters routes. Like you, I was not impressed.  I guess I've spent too much time riding in NC. As my buddy said, "Can't swing a dead cat without hitting a good road." If in the area, I'd ride them again but wouldn't do the 275 mile trip to do it.

Having lived in TN for a number of years, I have to agree with you that TN and NC have some of the best twisties in the country.  However, in my humble opinion is that Texas Hill country is one of the prettiest rides in the country (I have also been impressed with some of the surrounding area in New Mexico, Utah, Nevada and Arizona).  Following is some video I shot in TX Hill country a couple of years ago.
