Another rear wheel story

Only this one has a happy ending. Well happy beginning and middle as well. So after all the talk about drive spline nightmares I decided to pull my back wheel. It's only been half a tire ago (around 10K miles). So I figured it was a good time plus I wanted to replace the dampeners in the wheel.

Well I had the old flange stuck in the pumpkin phenomenon. Now that usually happens for one of two reasons. Either rusty splines or worn dampeners. Wheeew. Splines  are perfect, it was the dampeners.

Absolutely no visible wear since the last time or the times before. All the parts are like new still.

I am going to replace all the O-rings and thrust washer.

Jeff...curious, what grease/lube are you using? I might take mine down this winter since I'll not be doing any riding for a while in Wisconsin. I have a new set of dampeners but after moving here from Florida heaven knows where they might be. Lord willing I want to travel some next year around Inzane time so with close to 50k it might not be a bad idea to pull the alternator during this time.

Kudos on the splines, hope mine look as good.

John I use a mixture of moly paste I still have from Guard Dog and Lucas heavy duty grease. Pictures in my slide show. I think the Lucas heavy duty grease by itself would do just fine.
