I'd most likely be coming down through Knoxville to Franklin, NC prior to the rally, visiting some friends going back many years. If it works out, I'd like to hit the Dragon(129) on the way down so wondering where's a good spot to pick it up SE of Knoxville? On the map it doesn't look like it gets interesting until past Chilhowee. I have an old LEO buddy that's retired outside of Robbinsville I could stop to see, then take 143 NE since nothing goes straight through to Franklin. Another possibility is pick up 28 going SE to Franklin, that would bypass my old buddy though. After Franklin I'd head over to Asheville, calling ahead so the marching band and dancing girls will be on site when I arrive.  :2funny:

Now if only I can do all that without getting lost(memories of a couple times following Michael K and his GPS)! Which brings up another thought....I haven't heard from him or about him in quite some time. Does anyone have any info, I know he was battling pancreatic cancer but never heard how it turned out. Hope it's not bad news about my old friend from "Feenix" via Florida for a few years.

Come to 129 by way of Foothills Parkway its a beautiful ride . Stay on 129 after you leave Deals Gap , NC towards Robbinsville . Take a R on 143 this turns in Cherohala Skyline another beautiful ride . All can be easily done on a day ride. 143 turns into 165 when you cross into The Great State Of Tennessee...Picture taken on Foothills Parkway

If you do ride Cherohala Skyline take a 7 mile ride out to Bald River Falls no hiking required its right beside the road.

I've seen alot of people that thought they were cool , but then again Lord I've seen alot of fools.

Thanks Joe, definitely beautiful country judging by the pics. I'll save this so I can refer back to it when the time comes.  :cooldude:

Michael K. is alive and well and riding.  He's pretty active on FaceBook.

You can't do much about the length of your life, so focus on the width.

Good to hear. Wonder why he never is seen on here, used to be a regular. I don't do "Face" so maybe I can shoot him a line if he has his email listed.

I was just thinking about him the other day - my tomatillo bush just leafed out.
