Plan on having my bike painted.

 I am going to have to paint my Valkyrie because of the crash it was in before I got it. My question is about the emblems on the tank and bags. How do I get them off and how can I put them back on after the new paint is done.   Thank Dannie

Held on with double sided tape.

Warm them up (not high heat) and use dental floss or fishing line.

Tape them back on.

Fishing line does a fine job. I didnt even attempt to heat mine. Just back and forth sawing motion and off they came.

Use 3M molding tape to reattach, in an appropriate width.  Be sure to pre-mark the right location, as this stuff STICKS:

It just depends..:::.remeber a cheap paintjob isnt good and a good paint job isnt cheap.

Prices vary wildly for bike paint jobs.  MC painter specialists charge like they are Da Vinci.

If you will do all the disassembly and deliver the tins to a bump and paint shop (who will do a bike), you may get a good job for a decent price.  I once got a perfect matching paint job on a pair of upgrade abs saddlebags for under two hundred bucks (one color).

You may want to call (or ride) around to look for local opinions/quotes, even from bike dealers who farm out their paint work.

  I rode over to the painter I know yesterday to get a price on my bike and it is going to be around $1000.00 for a two tone paint job which to me is very good. This man only paints bikes and gets work from all over the country. He has done two CBX paint jobs for bikes I was working on so I know how good is.

The pin stripping is hard to do well. The pin stripping that's between the 2 tone colors. The factory did a awesome job on that.

just for the price reference point I got my new to me interstate gas tank prepped (sanded, primed, etc) and painted (bunch of coats of factory paint and special epoxy sealant and 4 coats of the best clear coat available on the market) by one of the local MC painters, a.k.a. Da Vinci for $500 and front fender for another $300, so your quote of a $1000 for everything is very good in my opinion assuming the quality is top notch

I think the factory did an awesome job on it because it's a tape stripe.

Pinstripping the curves must not have been easy. Especially on the tank which isn't a flat surface on top of everything.

The pin stripping and paint definition lines are done with a transfer sheet at the factory, but if you have a steady hand, you can do a pretty good free hand job. I did this stuff after watching an online video from a custom painter.

  I thank this man is very good, he dose a lot of vintage bikes as well as work for the local Harley shop. He has two to five bikes he is working on at any given time. He dose not disassemble ( no time for that) you have to take or ship the parts to him.

Be very careful with the heat on that emblem, the emblem has a plastic base with what almost seems like a chrome skin. It doesn't take much heat to wrinkle that skin. I used a small heat gun that I use for shrink tube and wrinkled one enough to bother me, picked up a new/used one.

I believe it is different expansion coefficients between the plastic base and chrome overlay.
