Or just move out of CA to a state that understands why there is a second amendment. Even if you successfully hide your guns from a confiscation, you still lost them because being caught with contraband makes you a criminal then you can't even keep the legal ones

I'm confused. Are you looking for a case to protect your guns from damage and theft, or hide them from the state ? (If it's the second, don't answer)

That is a very nice gun box.

However, it (and it's contents) can easily be stolen in a break in (locked or unlocked).  It is a dead giveaway that it holds valuables, and cannot itself be easily hidden.  It is also not fireproof, which is a greater threat than flood damage.

For transporting (hand)guns (like to and from a range), I use a common cordura nylon padded computer case, which screams computer, not guns, to any who would see it when out and about.  

On a budget, in the home, you would be better served to look for some creative method of hiding guns (in pistol rugs) where they will be hard to find.  Inside walls, behind ducts (not high heat), inside furniture.  Of course, you should also hide any indicia of gun ownership that thieves might discover, leading them to searching harder.

This is my idea of a good gun box.  It comes ready to bolt down to a concrete floor which makes it much harder to flip on it's back and be strong armed into, with fireproofing, and best mounted in the corner of a bedroom closet (and closets burn last in any house fire, so add fire protection).  This is one of the best safe manufacturers in the entire country.  I just bought this model for my poor (single) niece who recently lost everything she owed of value in a home invasion while she was away on vacation.  I did quite a bit of research on guns safes before choosing this company out of Fresno CA.

This safe won't take long guns (unless you break them down), but is large enough for many pistols, wills, cash, jewelry, titles, documents, cameras.  The only options I ordered was fireproofing and a key in combination to prevent manipulation.  You don't want an electronic lock.  With fire liner, it weighs 505lbs.

It does cost more than your box however.   If you call them direct, they will immediately offer you a couple hundred discount over the listed prices.  They build each safe once ordered.

Their website has a number of extremely informative videos that are worth your time watching.  Like thieves with crowbars only breaking into a $2,000+ name brand safe in under 2 minutes.  A real eye opener.

 I should have been clearer concerning the use of the box (i.e. transport) not sure if the t-shirt gave the wrong idea? (I just thought it was funny).

@Serk: transporting to range/etc, for home I already got a DOJ approved gun safe.

@meathead: all my guns are part of the California gun roster and were legally bought through a gunshop with DROS and all the California mandated paperwork, no reason to hide them from the State.

Half related to the subject: how you guys insure your guns? Is it possible to add it to the home's insurance? (got AAA car and home insurance)

On insurance, first check your homeowner's policy.  Most policies only cover like $1200 or so for firearms.  For more, you call and add a rider to your policy, for a price.  And deductible applies to guns, as well as anything else.

For transport to/from range/land I just use cheap cases; I either picked 'em up at gun shows, Wal Mart or Academy over the years.

Sometimes when I'm taking multiple pistols to the land I'll just put them in with a rifle in a pistol case, that way I minimize the number of cases I'm lugging around...

I use cheap cases for transport. I have 2 liberty safes the secure them while at home. Bother anchored to the concrete slab on the back 1/4 of my house. The house will fall down around them before they go anywhere. I have a couple free range pistols though. They never see the darkness of the safe unless we are gone for long periods, then one if not both are with me.

Google up a "fort knox pistol box", I have one.

Some pistol boxes supposedly aren't very secure.

I believe it is almost certain that if I ever come home and
find a thief, he won't be able to shoot me with my own pistol,
unless he brought a cutting torch. He can steal the box and

Savago, I am insured with USAA (a company started and run by and for current and former military members (and certain family members) since 1922.  They are the best insurance company in America.

So I have no experience with any NRA (or affiliate) insurance.  I've been an NRA member for about 50 years.  I would trust an NRA insurance program, but I would also shop around other reputable companies before choosing.

Only home owners have Homeowner's insurance, renters carry renter's insurance to cover firearms (and other personalty).

Regarding security perhaps you know this, but it's fine to discuss your firearms with very good friends and people here, but you never ever discuss them with neighbors or anyone else who knows where you live (or give any indication of ownership whatsoever).  Wife and kids must know this too.  You can trust some people, but are you prepared to trust everyone those people may talk to?

Guns and drugs are the number one and two items most sought after by criminals.  Money is only number three.

Just the fact that they have a list of approved guns. Guns that are legal everywhere else but California are excluded. That would be enough to get me to move

Was wandering Harbor Freight tonight, and saw a bunch of different sizes of these guys for cheap.... Quick inspection they seemed to be decent quality, especially for the price!
