I am in the process of restoring a 1976 GL 1000 (for-runner of the Valk, now it's Valk related). The frame and a few other components need a new coat. Everything is already cleaned and ready to go. I am looking for some powder coating references. Since I am located in Dublin, the west side has my preference. TIA~TJ

Hi TJ,

It's not west-side, but I was very happy with Custom Powdercoating when I used them.  Call 214 638 6416 or toll-free 866 638 6416 and ask for John Cartwright.  He's a major old Honda motorcycle enthusiast and I've known him for a long time.  They are south of 183 between Regal Row and Mockingbird in Dallas.  Website  Map

BTW, the engine looks brand new!

Looking forward to seeing the finished product. Had a 76 with the Vetter fairings for a while and it may not have had all the bells and whistles, but it was a fun, reliable bike.  BTW, Dave's guy did a good job on his wheels.

Engine is going back stock and so are the carbs. I replaced the crankshaft, waterpump, both oilpumps and all bearings and seals and belts on the motor, it should be good for a long time. Overhauled the carbs using Randall's kit and video. Somebody had installed mismatched carberaturs on the bike and thats fixed also.  ;D ;D
As far as frame and body panels I wouldn't mind custom. My daughter in the picture took the MSF course and she wants pink  :o, that's where I had to put my foot down. I always liked the black 77 Goldwing with blue pinstriping the best. I think it was faster  than the yellow although not as fast as the blue and silver. This bike was orginal yellow and I don't care for that color and neither does my daughter.
I tried to add a photo I had off my old bike. That didn't work because it's the wrong format, it was a scanned picture. Bitmap format, than I converted it to a pdf, photostash doesn't like either one. Sorry bout that.
I think I got it. Voila.

I/we are open for suggestions on the custom colors  :-\

If you download Format Factory from here (its free  :cooldude:) that will convert your bitmap to a jpeg (it also converts video and audio files from and to any format).

As to colour I am partial to Bumble Bee colours  :D as that is what I am currently rebuilding. Whatever colour you choose will be great coz you are restoring an old bike to better than its former glory  :).

How far back was that photo taken? Is the original paint anything like in the photograph? Sure looks fast.

We should, however, back up enough to give your daughter a LARGE "atta gal" for helping her dear ole dad with the rebuild.

I see something more along the line of a 250cc Honda as a starter bike for your assistant? Pink should not be out of the question? Keep us posted on your progress. Thanks for sharing. ~Jeff

ps~ If you are still looking for someone closer to home for powder coating, I would call Perry's and ask him who he would use.

I've used Custom Powder Coating in Irving too and John's a good guy.  :cooldude:
They have ovens there to easily do a frame.

I considered PC'ing the frame for the 77 I'm working on, but didn't want to blow the budget in week one.  ;)

$500 give or take for P.C. the frame glossy black that's if I do the sandblasting, more for other colors-----have to think about that one------. Nice looking project, and you are a little further along than me. Looks like at least one engine and a few carbs in the background. You must like those older Goldwings! I will try to keep y'all posted :cooldude:

Jeff I took that picture in summer of 1983, that was my second bike ever. The first one being a CB450(Black Bomber) believe that's what it was called. It was ok, the Goldwing was a lot better, rode it all over the Netherlands and Germany :coolsmiley: Almost as good as the Valk.
