Well, that was another curveball we didn't see coming !!!

Yesterday's news from my primary care doctor showed the blood taken
last week tested positive for Lyme Disease.....  
Not sure how far advanced it is, so I will be starting on oral antibiotics today.

Something else in front of us that I can beat the crap out of....ain't nothing we can't handle !!
Life's obstacles only makes us stronger and more determined.....we aren't slowing down !!!

They are nasty buggers, and seem to be getting worse. Many times the disease goes undetected.
Seems things got worse when they stopped allowing local departments to burn fields and pastures.

Glad the doctor discovered it and has put you on meds. You should be fine.  

I got it about 10 years ago. Discovered it early and had minimal ill effects: only flue like systems until the meds kicked in.  Now I use tick/mosquito/insect repellent when ever I'm doing yard work.  So far so good.

I'm curious if this is the reason my ankles, knees, and wrists have limited mobility....
Doesn't matter if I run a chainsaw and swing a splitting maul, or set and drink beer....
The past year or so I have noticed lack of mobility and swelling.  I had figured maybe it had something
to do with how I physically abused my body with sports and extra curricular activities over
the past 50 years.

I went in for a cortisone shot last Thursday, and the doctor recommended drawing blood for
a lyme disease test....cause you never know.
Glad he recommended one !!!

understand there is a high % of False positives. did your doc tell u about that?

False-positives is most likely occur when your body is fighting off infecions. The tests pick up the presence of antibodies to other bacteria or viruses. Syphilis, HIV, or mononucleosis could be a suspect in a positive test result.



Studies show that 50% of people who have a positive Lyme antibody test (a western blot) do not show symptoms of Lyme disease.

Sadly, I know way too much about Lyme and it's co-infections (3 years and probably $30K later, not counting lost wages, etc). Testing positive does mean you have been exposed, but unless you have symptoms, you aren't suffering from Lyme. If it was a weak infection, your own immune system may have already killed it. The antibiotics (Doxycycline, I imagine) are a good idea though, in case of any other parasites that came with it. Good luck with it. I prayed to the porcelain God more on Doxy than I did during my drinking days. If things do progress in a bad way, ask away.

Luckily I have not been to South Jersey, so the chances of catching syphilis, HIV, or mono are slim to nil.
