Echo Dot 3.

I think I'm in love with Alexa.

So compliant willing to help at any time of day.

I like the music library and listening to random songs I have never heard before.

For $30 the sound quality is pretty good.

I like it enough to buy a second one for my main living area. They play together.

To each their own....

I won't have one in my home.

And I'm VERY into tech, control most of my house via computers, but won't have anything that listens 24x7 like that..... And insist all cell phones have the "Digital Assistant" 'feature" disabled.....

But if you're comfortable with that, more power to you.... (Sincerely)

A friend bought one and would get upset when it didn't work. He kept calling it Siri.

My "Spousal Unit" purchased one, although I haven't messed with it, I'm in total agreement with Serk and others who don't like or allow listening devices in their "private" spaces.

Whether it's "Big Brother" concerns or the possibility it can be "hacked" doesn't matter.   My space is my Private Space.   It's no one else's business what goes on there.

Although it's a different type of hardware, there was just a situation where someone hacked a security camera and told a little girl to destroy her room, they were able to view her, listen in and even talk to her.   While I don't have any kids here at home, I don't like the idea of being targeted.

My feelings are the same as Serks on this issue but my daughter has it in her house and uses it about the same way as you. I also disable Siri on my phone but it really does not matter since there is still the ability to view and hear everything you say or do.

We have a $25 firestick for streaming. The control has a button with a
picture of a microphone on it. I keep hoping the microphone is only
on when we push the button (never).

reminds me of my Dad some 15+ years ago not at all computer, etc. savy.   I put him on my cell phone plan and bought the largest basic button cell phone around at the time.  He would NOT put that thing down kept calling me up all the time being so proud he could make a phone call while still sitting in his lazyboy recliner vs. using the corded rotary dial phone in the kitchen he had.

He was so proud of himself plucking one finger at a time on the old school manual typewriter at the kitchen table some 20 years ago taking weeks to type a basic letter to his sisters living in North Dakota at the time.  Something most of us could do with a laptop in say 30 minutes tops.

Am surprised I turned out somewhat tech savvy (not really) but compared to my parents, especially my mom, who was afraid to touch the TV remote or microwave oven buttons for fear of either breaking them or messing them up somehow unable to figure out which buttons to get both back to normal.  I also got a lot of calls from my Dad as well living in another town nearby when he messed up the TV remote buttons unable to figure out how it works again.

No way would they talk into an amazon echo device asking it a question.  They would think we are crazy or something not talking to a LIVE breathing person.

My ex-neighbor (thank god he moved) the one who bugged me a lot but never seemed to take my advice then coming over later to tell me he should have listened to me,  who is tech savvy IT person just had to show me several times how his Alexa voice remote worked and even programmed his thermostat and lights with one of those devices.   Personally,  what a waste of money...
