When I was on the Garrison Texas V F D and E M S natural gas in town with some still transitioning from propane tanks. Most all of our surrounding rural area at that time still on propane. NEVER had a propane tank blow while I was on The F D. BUT we were to a Man aware of these tanks when ever we were called out. Even when not called out on a fire I was very skeptical when propane to the house or mobile home was plumbed with P V C pipe. Kept those locations in my personal memory bank. Worked for the city at that time. Fire Fighting IS and continues to BE Very Dangerous. RIDE SAFE.

We were trained on that in the early 80s during power plant continuing training.  I seen to recall a BLEVE can be up to 270 times the size of the original vessel.

It expands from is pressurized state to gaseous state 270 times. By the time the cloud of 100% gas thins out to a flammable or explosive range or air/fuel ratio of 4 to 6% gas to 95% air . . . It makes for a huge problem . . . and ball of fire.
