Safety, brake line replacement

I've got a 98 standard. Rebuilt the master cylinders and calipers both front and rear.  Just saw a YouTube article on safety and it mentioned to replace brake lines every 4 years.  Mine look fine, no kinks and no cracks.  What's the collective opinion on this?  Thanks in advance.  Clanky

I read most of that link, I think you got your answer.

I'll say, until you change your lines, or there are signs of up coming failure, you'll most likely only notice after you've changed them.

My 88' GW was 25 years old when I bought it, and my 99 IS is currently 21. I don't suspect either one as having any trouble.

In my book 20 years is long enough for OEM lines. Anything under 10 I would say you are wasting money.

Thanks Avanti for the thread reference.  It did seem like oil threads that we've all seen.  But I'd rather have more info than less.

I just replaced all the brake lines on my '99 standard that I bought new off the showroom floor.  I pretty much rebuilt the whole bike and since I could still get the front OEM brake lines I went ahead and bought them.  I also rebuilt my calipers with new upgraded SS pistons, seals, and speedbleeders.

I figured that even though the original brake lines were still ok, no cracks or spongy lever, that this will be the last time in my life that I'll ever have to do this.  Even if I live another 21 years I'm sure I won't be riding anything other than a Rascal....

On my Rocket 3 I installed risers and needed to get longer brake lines. I did a lot of research and ended up buying HEL lines directly from HEL.  They have a range of colors of both lines and fittings and they are top quality.  I ordered 4" longer than stock and it worked out perfectly.  I would recommend them highly, but Galfer and others also make great replacements.
