Yup, checked my balance this A.M. and there was a deposit from "Irs Treas" for both my wife and I.

I literally couldn't believe my eyes, but yup it's there.

Both my wife and I have worked everyday since all this crap started. This money makes me feel dirty. I don't like it, I don't want it, I don't need it. I feel accepting this will only hurt us in the long term.

Not crazy about it either,  but if you want to get rid of yours I'll take it!

You are correct.
The Government now has control of your bank account.
"Direct Deposit" is a misnomer - they can also withdraw!

Spend it frivolously at your locally owned small businesses.  You'll both feel better.

I look at it this way - I'm in favor of any tax cut for anyone at any time for any reason.

And this is just a tax cut with extra steps.

If you're feeling bad about it, either spend it at local businesses, or donate it to a worthy cause (Your favorite politician, or a civil rights group like GOA, NAGR or the like.)

Due to 'Rona I am getting unemployment. I found today I am also getting an extra $600 a week. A FRICKIN WEEK.

With normal unemployment that's over $900 a week. That's crazy.

DW and I have discussed this money.  We while not wealthy, are doing ok on retirement checks.  So will probably withdraw the money and donate it out local food bank.   don't want any paper trail on where the money went.

The CARES Act provides that the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) $600 weekly supplement is payable for weeks ending April 4, 2020 through July 25, 2020. FPUC is subject to deductions for federal and state tax withholdings, child support and overpayment recoveries. The weekly supplement will be paid the first business day following the regular unemployment benefits payment.

Amen - we're not too much into bars, but I WILL be going to local eating establishments when they are open for eat-in. We already try to frequent locals for the takeout.

I have a patient (a restaurant worker) who flat told me, he's not going back to work when they re-open.  He said unemployment is good for a year and he's taking it (even if he doesn't get the extra money once this is over).

Yeah, Dennis.  I had a chunk of old molar filling fall off yesterday.  Actually, I ate a home made pizza, and after had what I thought was a piece of hard pepperoni stuck on the inside of a gum, but when I flossed it out, it was chunk of an ancient (amalgam, not white) filling.  Grrrr.

Now it's causing no pain, so not an emergency, but I'd like to get it fixed before it has to be pulled out, or falls out (already had a handful pulled, and it's hard enough to eat as it is).  My dentist is closed, but will open in 2 weeks, for emergency only.  I'm gonna call him (we're friends), and see if I can arrange a repair date with just me and him and no one else in the office.  Since there is no way to social distance in a dentist's chair.

Yes, I have not filed this year (and won't, till I have to), but I read the IRS site and it said you were good if you filed for 2018 or 2019 (and all my direct deposit has been set up forever).  But no deposit for me so far.  Not like I need it.

We haven't filed 2019 either.  We did file 2018, but didn't get a refund.  Not sure where that leaves us.  We have received electronic refunds in previous years.

That's what they're getting here in Canada. $2000 a month. As long as you've lost your job from the virus. Or can't work because you're taking care of someone with it. Or your kids' daycare is closed.

My daughter works part time at an ice cream store to get through University. They all got laid off when they had to shut down. Now the store is thinking about opening with a delivery service. But nobody wants to work because they make more sitting at home.

There's your Universal Basic Income at work.

Disclaimer: I'm not suggesting people shouldn't be getting some kind of assistance if they've lost their job from the virus. This is more of a statement why a UBI that many politicians have called for won't work when this is all over.

Savago

I'm unfortunately not receiving any money from the government, but I got no complains as I'm still working on what I like to do and being reasonable well paid for it.
:-)

What I would do with the money if I was you:
a) Save 1/2 the money.
b) Spent the other 1/2 buying a gun in a local shop (or from a friend/neighbor who is in need of cash).

After all, we got stimulate the economy and support local jobs.

Crackerborn

My understanding of the relief funds are as follows - the first to receive checks will be those who e-filed for 2019, second wave for those that e-filed in 2018. Next, those that receive paper checks via snail mail and finally those rich ba$turds that write checks to the IRS. I seem to fall in that last category as I refuse to overpay quarterly estimates and we really need a sarcasm font.

There is a link on the IRS site to registrar if you are in the same boat (maybe leaky canoe in my case) that is to be available in mid April. I am expecting a check sometime late August per the IRS timetable.
Life is about the ride, not the destination.

Opened a new account for income tax deposit only...bank was running a deal a few years back, open a new account and they matched the first $100 deposit...had to leave money in account for two years....

All direct deposits go into that account for tax returns...then removed into separate account...
