To all my Louisiana and Mississippi Gulf coast friends...

It's the first storm of the season, and the outer bands are starting to hit us out here in Lafayette, LA.

Prayers sent that the damage and flooding stay to a minimum.

I had a short note from my sister in Jacksonville, FL. that she had had 5.5" of rain in less than 8 hours.  So the old south is probably getting wet.

Really? A Hurricane? Is that all you got? It is 2020 fer crying out loud. We're here getting ready for the Yellowstone volcano to blow up and spew murder Grizzlies through the Midwest and you're still trying to impress us with hurricanes? Bunch of pansies.

I had heard that, but then I found more scientifically based reports that the "news was greatly exagerated". There HAVE been more minor seismic events than usual, but don't sweat it yet.

Besides, If Yellowstone decides to blow, bend over and kiss it good by. That eruption will probably be a planet killer. Certainly for the states not too far from Wyoming (INCLUDING Kansas).

If Yellowstone decides to blow??? It's 2020. It's gonna blow. The asteroid will hit first though followed by the alien invasion from another planet. But our 401ks will be out of the park! So not all bad.

OK... You got me there... And this storm wasn't even a big one. 

Though apparently, it's quite a bit more East than I thought.  I do hope our Alabama and Florida Panhandle friends aren't having any issues.

Yeah... for a typical storm, I'm on that web site daily to check the landfall and estimated winds.  This one, however, didn't have much wind, so I wasn't worried about it. 

I was more worried about our friends in the low lying, easily flooding areas.  Looking at the news this morning, it looks like minimal issues all around. 

First landfall of the year was an easy one... let's hope they stay like that all year!

Central Florida here.
Over 6" of rain last week from it. Tornado warnings and torrents.
Today, this afternoon as a matter of fact....2.5" of rain in a couple of hours!!!

Definitely not a hurricane at 50mph wind.
