I'm bummed out I won't make it to Asheville in July but my schedule just gets too tight then.
Instead my better half and I are going to Maggie Valley for a week.  :cooldude: She even said she will take a few rides . I'm hoping the cooler air and great scenery will convince her it was a good idea.
Maybe the dinner still serves cobbler :D

:-\ Bummer Jeff, I was looking forward to seeing you and going on some rides. I'm sorry work got in the way but know you have to be there. You and the Mrs. enjoy Maggie Valley and I hope you find that cobbler.  :smitten:

Not heading up in July. Going up this week and maybe beat a little of the heat.

This is a weird feeling though, trailering the bike up there. There's no way Mama will ride that far.

Maggie Valley has always been a favorite of ours.  You have to go to Waynesville or Cherokee for the chain stuff but you can always go to the local establishments to eat.  Highway 209, 215, and the Blue Ridge Parkway are hard to beat.  Waterrock Knob on the BRP is a great place to watch the sun set in the afternoon.  If you have never been to see the Elk in the Cataloochee area it is a good ride but very twisty and some of the road is gravel until you get into the park then back to paved.

Sounds good Jeff, we are up here now, there is paving going on the BRP but still getting by with some small delays, lots of dump trucks and tar stripes but what they are laying down looks smooth as butter. One nice rd off the rattler (209) is  63 that will make for a nice loop back down towards Asheville.  It was hot down low but not Florida hot. Enjoy

Hey Jeff,
Maybe we could meet up in Maggie.  When will you be there?

Well it sure was a pleasure riding with a bit of a chill in the air. We left with 94º temps at home and arrived to a high of 72º. Lows in the morning around 52º to 54º. Two full days of excellent riding weather all day. Then two mornings of great rides. A little rain in the afternoon on those two days dampened things a bit.
My wife doesn't ride much at all so we started her out on the Parkway on the first day with plenty of stops at the overlooks. That day she did her longest ride so far of around 125 miles which included 209 from Lake Junaluska to Hot Springs, aka The Rattler. She had a good time. Says she may even do it again. :cooldude:
I've always liked 9 south out of Black Mountain down to Bat Cave then Alt 74 back up to Asheville. It makes a good morning ride when rain threatens in the afternoon.
276 south out of Waynesville toward Brevard is a nice one too for those type of days.

Unfortunately most of the restaurants were closed. A few were doing take out only.
Cobbler was not found :(

Had dinner and a beverage with Bob and his wife Michelle at Bear Water Brewing in Maggie Valley. It was a good pick Bob, glad you found it.

Spent 3 days wandering our way back to the SW Fl heat and humidity. We weren't in much of a hurry.

A good time was had by all.

Pappy!

Way to go! Also happy she had a good time on the bike with you.
Now....where's the pics?

Sounds like we did a lot of the same roads Jeff, just a week apart. Next time we need to plan better and get there at the same time. Hey did the chiggers get hold of you, they tore me up, I just stopped itching 2 days ago. Glad to hear your wife enjoyed the ride.  :cooldude:

We did a few short hikes but avoided the chiggers. Those little devils tore us up a few years ago in north Georgia.

Wow, great weather for sure Jeff and you had company with the wife, even better.  :smitten:  Hwy 276 out of Waynesville about 10 is where the Blueridge Motorcycle Campgrounds is located. This is where we have had a base camp many times, nice place with the cabins. Only a couple miles before the Blueridge Pkway enterance then Brevard in about 12 miles or so. So glad ya'll made it up there and the wife enjoyed the ride. Take care. :coolsmiley:

Yep, I was the camp ground. I'd defiantly consider it for another time.
