Racism?

A Black person walks into a room of people of people from other races.  Nobody says anything except for greetings and nods.  After an undetermined amount of time, the black person says she/he feels very uncomfortable and wants to leave.

Is this racism?  Is it racist to ask why the black person feels uncomfortable?

I was told that BOTH are racist/racism.

I asked how can feeling uncomfortable, when nobody has said or done anything that can be considered racist, be racism.  It just is, I was told, and that I could never understand.  This person once told me a while back that it's not just what someone says and does that makes them racist.  I asked what else is there??  No answer, it just is.  I asked, is it possible that the person is transferring, or projecting their own thoughts and feelings onto everyone in the room?  That they themselves are the one with the racists feelings or opinions?  Oh boy was THAT the wrong thing to say.

I was asked if I would read a book about if provided.  I said No because I don't to be convinced that racism exists where it really doesn't.

So, you don't even have to say or do anything that is considered actually racist for you to be considered and actual racist.

Many years ago, in FL over Christmas school break with my family, I entered a bar in Coral Gables.  It was was very dark and filled exclusively with men.... very, very friendly men being very friendly with each other.  It took a couple long minutes for me to figure it out; I had heard about these places, but had never actually seen one.  I got a very uneasy feeling and got the hell out of there.  Racism had nothing to do with it.  A few years later, the same thing happened in Key West.

Got to thinking about this post, hindsight being 20/20 and all...

They say we are what we eat.  All these years I've been consuming racist pancakes and rice without thinking twice about it.  How could I have been more insensitive?!?!?  It's true, I am racist.

The realization has left me overwhelmed with guilt!   

Afterthought.  I guess it's wrong for me to say, but the racist pancakes and rice tasted good!  I hope they don't change the recipes.

Cultural bias is not the same as racism.  IMHO the # of friends of different races or religions is a bullShit argument   Howard Stern called it in his skit. It was rauncy and sick but true as to what you hear on the subway in the store or on the street.

My clients are mostly brown and black.  I grew up here.  It has not changed much.
I am not scared nor do I think more or less of anyone for their color. So to those who say I am a racist I say kiss my white A$$

I admit I have called a few the N word counting the number of times on my fingers the past 40+ years I have done it, but if act like one,  then be called like one.   I use to work with a few black people whom I called my friends we hung out together after work back in the day,   definitely not ghetto material, nice guys.    For me anyways,  when they start acting all 'gangster' is when it changes. 

Told one young black punk age 19 or so tops at a WI waterpark in WI Dells with his white girlfriend about 11 or so years ago minding my own business calling me a white fat honky out of the blue to get his N... black _ss back to Illinois where he belongs getting right up into his grill face to face inches apart.  He backed off just laughing and while he was walking away I said a few other choice words, young punk.  If he was not black,  I would have said the same thing to a Chinese or white or whatever color,  just not the N word.

I walked in and there was enough black leather to have a stampede and I took a look around partly out of shock and partly out of trying to understand what was happening, it literally took a few minutes to sink in. One thing I kept looking for was women, I will NEVER forget that as long as I live.

Ive also been in Key West when this event was going on and me and wife left early and went a bit further north.

Like the boy who cried wolf, I think the word 'racist' has been so over-used that it's lost much of it's impact.  But here's an example of racism:  when a cop is charged with first degree murder for firing at a criminal who fired a weapon at him just a moment earlier.

I disagree with the butcher.  If you use that word in that context it does make you not funny but also confirms that you are a racist and an asshole.  That would be only if you are not African-American.  You're not, are you?
