anyone live nearby or in a city that has required masks be worn in public or get a fine?

I fear it is coming heard about some places being required in public now due to everyone opening back up and the virus is going way way up.

I know once I get back into the office come mid July the big shots in HR thinks they will make us be 'required' to wear the mask at our office desks even though 6 feet apart from all.  I for one will NOT be doing it no matter what they say stating 'I can't breath' as well as does no good if someone else not around me and everyone stays clear of me to begin with.

Patrick

NYS has required masks for at least a couple months. Don't know about fines though, but, don't let prince andrew hear this. He's always looking for more ways to fill the state coffers. Its become comical watching people with their masks.

No, and if someone tries to give me a ticket , I'll tear it up in front of them.

This mask thing is interesting for the following reason.

If there is a "law", "rule", or some other government edict to wear a mask in a specific situation, does that same "law", "rule" stipulate the kind of mask that must be worn?

If not then the "law" or "rule" is basically useless.

If the requirement to wear a mask stipulates the type/design of said mask, must you carry a certificate or other documentation that demostarntes your mask meets said requirements?

I find this mask thing a great big government over reach only designed to make people "feel good".   Without specifically identified the quality of said mask, and ensuring it has not been used in a contaminated area, it is just one more govenemetn over reach and a step toward more "controls" on what you and I do.

Next, if they government can require you to wear a mask in "public" (in a store is different or other private property) can they require you to wear a green long sleeved shirt because it minimizes mosquito stings which transmits malaria?

If you are wearing a mask and have to enter a government building and therefore are required to show you "legal" ID, do you have to remove your mask so they can compare the photo on the ID to you?

Is requiring you to remove said mask, forcing you to be exposed to any airborne virus (because you don't know it could be just hanging around) and therefore contrary to the requirement of the "wearing a mask law".

True. However it can NOT be the same baggie in which one has his weed....  :coolsmiley:

Dallas county, and some of the other anti-freedom areas of the once great state of Texas are getting really sleazy about this.

Since the governor won't allow any lower municipality to make masks a legal requirement where the person would be ticketed, they got around it by making it a health ordinance that the BUSINESSES must enforce.

If a business is reported as having unmasked patrons the business gets fined $500 per incident.

So they've made the businesses their enforcers of their unjust "rule"...

Cookie come on the fact is You CAN breath. Anyone says they cant is full of BS. I dont wear one except where ask to. I have worn them daily for 35 yrs and not ONCE have I not been able to breath. If your company says wear it you should or you might be in that line looking for work. Just sayin.
Also I dont think any county - city or state can legally fine you without it being a LAW.  IF  it is a law will it ever be lifted or will you be required by LAW to wear one forever in that County-City or Sate?

According to various news sites in South Carolina, Columbia and Charleston have passed "rules" requiring the wearing of masks.

I sent our Governor a message, which said that such a rule/law would be hard to enforce.

Mainly because the intent of such a law would be to suppress the spread of a virus.  However, without a requirement for a specific grade of mask, the law would be just window dressing.  Something that looks good, makes you feel better but does little to meet the intent of the law which was to limit the spread of the virus.

I've seen apparent mask protesters tie on a bandanna like a western movie highwayman / bandit.  Absolutely no bug control at all but meets the letter of the rules.

The masks our company gives out is very hard to breath thru and would prefer to wear my bandana at my desk which am at 95% of the time except getting up to go to bathroom or lunch.  I guess I will be in that line looking for work then come July fine with me.  :cooldude:   not the only one that feels this way in my dept.    I know a few in my dept. that will NOT wear them either sitting at their desk minding their own business 6-12 feet apart from anyone else.

how does it benefit others?  Am I anywhere near 10 feet or so close to one another sitting at my desk? Show me the proof wearing masks make a difference from others 10 feet away? :uglystupid2:

As I said,  if I get up to go to bathroom or copier or do have to go see a coworker at their desk, then yes,  I will wear one, but not alone at my desk.

My coworker age 68 says she will not wear one either is affecting her own well being by wearing one at her desk.  Certain masks are harder to breath out of due to either how they are made or what material they are made out of.  Know all the facts before commenting just like the media blowing this BS all out of proportion.  :uglystupid2:

As I stated above the issues with the "mask" requirement are many.    What is considered a "qualifying" mask to meet the requirement?

Does the mask have to be replaced, washed, cleaned after each use?  How is this determined?  How do you prove the mask is clean or sterile?

Can you wear the mask if you have a beard?  If not, are beards no longer allowed.  (and if you don't understand the "beard" thing then you have never worked in a industry where "mask integrity" is important to your health and well being).

Any rule that stipulates that a person must wear a mask in public without the above requirements in said rule is basically ineffective and useless.  There can be only one reason for making masks a requirement for you to be in public and this is to get the public use to being controlled.  It is a loss of freedom.  Just one more step down that road.

scooperhsd

Exactly why when a business establishment "requests" mask use - nope - but if they "require" mask use - grudingly. Consider how much do I really need to use THIS establishment.

Willow

A report indicated the mask wearing is dividing the people of the U.S.  It says people who wear masks when they see someone not wearing thing there is someone who doesn't care about others.  When people who don't wear masks see someone wearing one they think there is someone really stupid and scared enough to think that's doing anything meaningful.

I'll hold off commenting on where I stand regarding mask wearing.

Hmmm.  I would suggest that the experts think social distancing and wearing masks in publc may be wise practices due to concerns over those pesky asymptomatic carriers spreading the virus to vulnerable folks in our society.

I would suggest these scientists recommend this for public safety, not to take away your rights or control you.

Its a tough concept for some to grasp.

Among scientists there is disagreement regarding masks.  Some have stated that studies show indicate asymptomatic transmission is very rare.  We do remember that earlier "scientists" had told us that wearing masks outside of hospital situations was completely unnecessary?

Pick the scientist that pleases you, then.

It does appear that "very rare" asymptomatic transmission is causing problems in several states right now.  I have little doubt that if everyone spreading the virus was feverish, coughing and sneezing we'd pretty much have it contained by now.  We don't.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that point.  My evidence is that we don't have the annual flu contained.

My impression of asymptomatic is that it describes a person who has some of the virus in his system but it has not been enough to take control.  The spreading of the virus, in my opinion, happens when the virus is prolific enough within a person's system that members if the virus are present and numerous enough to be in the person's breath, coughing and sneezing.

Yes, and it appears that we will have the annual COVID-19 to deal with as well.  Whether it's spread symptomatically, asymptomatically or as I believe both ways.

Some of those danged scientists propose that C-19 can spread by conversation alone.  I don't know one way or the other for sure.  Do you?

I know that it is past time to move on. If people catch, they were going to anyway. The biggest thing you can do to help is this - "If you're sick, STAY HOME. If you SUSPECT you might be sick , STAY HOME". Following those 2 rules would help immensly.

Unfortunately by the time you think you are sick you have been contagious several days

Lots of silly things going on

I have to have a sign that says wear mask on my door to the office

But I tell clients you can sit 6 feet from me without one and unless you ask me to, since I had covid and have antibodies I am NOT wearing a mask

I have been pleasantly surprised by how many diehard democratic clients are  now firm Trump supporters

The Dems want them to die with no income the other side wants them to enjoy all the liberties and work

Should not be such a difficult choice

The other thing I don't get  Planned Parenthood established to cause less black people
More black lives ended (millions) than ever before  thru abortion no protests
More black killed by black  (thousands)  than ever  no protests

2 thugs with criminal records high out of their minds die.  Burn a city

If blacks not required to wear mask and they die then who do they blame?

Well, yes.  Yes, I do.  It's a virus.  It spreads like any other virus.  It may be slightly more dangerous than the flu virus, a lot more dangerous than the viruses that give us colds, but it is another virus.  I will treat it as such.  I'll wash my hands, sanitize maybe.  I'll work at cutting down on touching my mouth, nose, and eyes.  I will not live in fear.

Good enough, thanks doc.  I have had colds and flu on numerous occasions and I don't particularly want C19 so I also follow those precautions. Since C19 is a novel virus and there are limited therapeutics and no vaccines for it I wear an n95 when in crowds.  I don't consider caution fear, but I do acknowledge your valor and prerogative.

It's a virus.  It spreads like any other virus.

There are a variety of ways a virus can spread other than aerosol or surface transmission.  West Nile is blood borne and usually is spread by mosquitos.  AIDS is also blood borne and is spread via blood or semen.  Ebola spreads via bodily fluids, and can fool the skin into absorbing it, which is pretty scary.

It appears that as we learn more about COVID, surface transmission is becoming less of a concern while aerosol transmission is a greater concern.  I wouldn't be surprised if eventually we find that nearly all infections result from aerosol transmission.  The mass spreading events point in that direction.

Good points.  Truthfully I believe very few viruses are spread by aerosol transmission.  I believe the majority of them are spread like most diseases which is mouth to hand to hand to mouth.

You might want to read this excellent article I linked last month:  https://www.erinbromage.com/post/the-risks-know-them-avoid-them

The detail on mass spread events, including diagrams of people who became infected in adjacent workspaces, and restaurant tables, makes a very good case for aerosol transmission.

Like you, I want to minimize my risk of catching this disease.  That means identifying situations you should avoid, or at least take precautions.  The above article helps in making informed choices.
