Carb rebuild--choke kills bike, won't idle high

Have 2 valkyrie, and rebuilt the carbs on my 99' interstate. 2 cylinders were not firing, and problem was from the intake boots from the airbox not being properly attached to the carb.

Seperate csrbs, bought red eye full carb kit, bowl gaskets, digisync, and put back together. I made sure the left and right side of the choke were pulled the same amount when choke lever is pressed. However, instead of making the idle go up to about 3krpm, the bike just shuts off.

I am in florida, and the carbs have 6 beans new air cut valves, and are clean. What is going on that causes the bike to shut off on choke?

If I just throttle and or start normally it runs great... Help!!

its not a conventional choke, it is an enricher so it will get so rich that it goes out of range - basically it floods, you can do the same with a choke on a conventional carb.  If the engine starts well without it you don't need it, maybe when it gets colder and the air is denser it will take more fuel to start then use it - even then they are touchy.

Madmike is right. I lived in Florida for 53 yrs. til a year ago and never used the choke unless the temps were below 40F....and then for only a few seconds to get it started. Using a choke is not an automatic need, if it starts without it....all the better.

Betcha that cable gets the odd workout in WI.  lol, I lived in Inuvik - above the Arctic circle -  and had my Valk there to enjoy the 10 miles of pavement out to the airport for the best hamburger in town then eat bugs on the way home, used it the odd time there.

I don't use my choke, don't need to. My choke will kill the engine in hot weather.

The only way I can use my enhancer (choke) to warm up and get the bike idling smooth is to right after starting my bike (without the choke) I rev it up while applying the enhancer and then it will stay running at a higher rpm usually around 2200. If I first apply the enhancer and hit the go button it wont run/start.

I do the same as yrunvs when it's cooler out or they've been sitting awhile. 90% of the time I don't use the choke at all.
Now that the carbs are working right, you don't need choke here in Florida much, if ever.
I know using the choke is the only exercise your thumb gets when you own a valk. LOL.

HEY! I use it plenty to turn up/down the volume and to change the radio station on my IS. xD
