Hey - just some notes on a horn relay add on my standard, I know its old hat for a lot of you guys, but maybe it will help out others and give some ideas...
And I admit having a little fun posting this up...

I removed the stock horn long ago, and added this horn to try out.... but didnt wire it...

And went looking  for a round tuit for a couple years, and low and behold I found one last week...  Wink
-------------

Typically on a horn relay I refer to this diagram.... I never remember what wire goes to what number
on  a relay.....

So I grounded one lead on the horn and added a hot lead and routed it up by the steering head. And then also pulled the stock horn leads up by the steering head area...

For fuse, I am using a mini fuse holder and then for a relay, I am using this panasonic mini relay + base holder... available from cycleterminal.com
http://www.cycleterminal.com/accessory-relays.html
Its my "goto" place for wire em up stuff......
http://www.cycleterminal.com/index.html

Fuse holder....

And the relay + base

Here is hoping the fuse is close to the power source. I have seen many a fuse at the end of the power run

So the question on the relay and fuse holder is.... where are you gonna mount this stuff?
I fooled around with stuffing it in the steering head area, but nothiing there I liked, just too cramped.

So where? What about around the battery area? Where is the fuse gonna go?
Then the classic saying, " a bolt of lighting hits"  - Hey look at the battery box bolts. Maybe I could make a bracket to hold the fuse holder......

Hey, there's bracket in there somewhere....

Working it.....

Some more...

Now??

Right on cue.... Yup - next to the battery.. I have lots of left over rotor bolts, and they sure are great for other spots...
Hey this can work!

Zip tie down the fuse holder to the bracket..

So... now where is the relay gonna go? Hmmmmm
Well look at the other side of the battery box......

Maybe just zip tie it here?

Hey! Another bolt of lighting hits!  Cheesy
Oh, no way! A factory installed relay mount holder!

Now, making progress, need to figure out a mini harness for it all....

Crimping terminals for the base holder block...

Getting the base block ready... Terminals are push to lock in.. easy.

Snapped the base block and relay together and added a million yards of black electric tape...

Working on the fuse connections......

As part of the deal, I replaced the radiator over flow hose with a higher quality Gates type hose,
its much stiffer than stock and worked out to be a good place for zip tying the pos leads down.

Cut a small slot for the eye terminal to connect to the battery...

Beautiful job. All I did was take the hot horn wire, and used that as a trigger for the relay to power the horn.

Thanks too -- that's essentially what I have going on, but with more wiring work and following the diagram from the first post.

This forum is a bit long in the tooth and can't do many things... like being to post pics without needing a photo hosting site.

I use Smugmug. It's a pay site, but very good. Lots of great features, like being able to post any pic any size, thumbnail or gargantuan. Can setup folders for each gallery. And my page is mine alone - no one can interfere. I probably have 2500 photos saved there.  ...... No adds or pop-up junk goes on.
And they will never suddenly shut down... It's $69.95 a year (or around there). It's worth it.. Cool I'm a big fan...  cooldude

Agree about the site is loooong in the tooth, it needs a serious update....

I stopped using it because I didn’t know how to avoid having to degrading my photos to get them to fit on photostash. The free hosting sites let me post a much better quality picture and its way easier
