Frickin' Petcock (Pic Added)

Took my tank off today to start my cruise control install. While taking the line off the petcock, it turned. So I took the tank over to my tailgate workbench, grabbed a crescent wrench and proceeded to tighten the nut. I was turning the nut and wasn't even applying pressure when the petcock body FELL OFF!!!

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Over??? Noticed inside the nut there is a clip with a gap to hold the nut on the body. Stuck the body back in, turned the nut and tried to lightly pull it apart. It stayed together. Attempted to re-install it and the frickin thing fell apart again. I've had it with Honda's stupid

design.

Why couldn't they have used a simple mechanical design like they used on the Shadows. Well, I won't have to worry about it anymore. I ordered a Pingel 1311-CH from Eastern Performance for $89.95 shipped. Should be here next Monday. The weird part is I was supposed to go to a buddy's house Friday night and we were going to spend the weekend installing cruises on both our Valks over the weekend. I ended up with a severe cold and decided not to go because I would 've ended up giving it to him. I guess the Lord works in mysterious ways. If I had been up there, we would have ended up bringing Sandman home on a trailer or, since I have a belly tank, I could have filled the belly tank before i left and ridden it home.

on the pingel. Alot here like to play with the oem a few times instead of getting one that seems to be reliable and less prone to failures.

I already converted it to manual for the belly tank. After that and reading all the problems people have with them, this made those seem like child's play. No $20 cover set is going to fix that. Plus, the Pingel is almost $20 cheaper before shipping.

I took my stock valve apart an removed the vac. parts of the valve an put a alum. plate to block off that section an now I have a manual valve at no cost.who needs all that junk.

Does that come with an adaptor nut to fit the Valk or is that extra ??

The 1311 is the model Pingel specifies for our Valks. It has a 22mm nut which is the same size Harley has speced since the mid 70s. Talking with ChrisJ yesterday, he told me the fuel outlet is slightly smaller than ours. I found out it is 1/4" and ours is the metric equivalent of 5/16" He recommended using a worm gear (old style) hose clamp.

Tundra, if they haven't shipped it yet, cancel your order and call Eastern Performance. I found them on ebay and instead of ordering through there, I called them direct. Here's their site: http://easternperformance.com/

That is....unless you sweat an extension on the Pingel pickup tube to make it the same(or nearly so) length as the OEM pickup.

Sodbuster, I have a belly tank. I would need 3 quick disconnects, one of which would need to be 1/2".

John, I have an approximate 250-280 range so I normally try to fill up between 225 and 250 miles. My reserve isn't dependent upon the height of the opening of the pickup tube but the height of the feed bung for the belly tank. Thanks for your advice.

On the subject of belly tanks and without getting off on a tangent is there room to put one of those permanent lift adaptors when using a belly tank ?? Like this .... or do you actually lift on the tank ?? Thanks

I don't know and I've wondered about that myself. It would be nice if we could get some measurements of the adapter plus some detailed pics of it on and off the bike including the mounting point with the adapter installed.

No it doesn't. It covers how to use door stops with a lift because you can't use a regular lift adapter. The permanent adapter bolts on and stays on the bike. It's supposed to use the kickstand mounting point which the belly tank also uses.

From the picture it looks like it doesn't hang below the kickstand pivot.

You're prolly thinking of the "Red" one .... the one in the pic is basically flush with the bottom of the engine.

It is the same as Sodbuster's pic near the bottom of page one on this thread. It bolts onto the crossmember. You remove the bolts that hold the sidestand, and insert the adapter, then put the bolts back in. Seems like I had to take a grinder to remove a small piece of the adapter that hit something, if I remember right. Not a big deal though.

There is NO WAY it could ever touch down. As Sodbusters pic shows, it is nestled up real good. Impossible to hit. Almost impossible to even see it there, unless you get down and look for it. Works real well. Just slide the arms of the jack under, line the rear jack arm up with the adapter, and lift up. Perfect.

Just bought a 2001 IS. I have an adapter to put on it too, but it has air horns up under there, and have not had the time yet to see if they are going to cause a problem or not.

The adapter is hidden and is tucked to where it would be impossible to drag etc. Is level with Btm. of motor. It also has a good finish that looks to be rust resistant. Says will outlast my Valk with lifetime warranty. Has a grip surface also where the jack arm meets. East install. Heres the link.

Guys, I have a belly tank that uses the kickstand bolts as the front mounting point. I don't have any room behind the kickstand; therefore, I need to know if the adapter goes in front or behind the kickstand.

O.K, Thought you may be able to see from the link pic. I posted. It mounts to the back of the kickstand bracket. But puts the adapter right below the bracket. So the adapter is mounted it is not in frt. or behind but below the bracket. Hope that helps.

Yeah .... I hessitated even bringing it up (adaptor) for fear where it might go. Sorry 'bout that. Thanks for the heads up on the petcock thou, sounds like a good thing to replace over the winter.
