No Headlights

Hey Everyone:  2001 Valk Interstate. Starts fine, but headlights stopped coming on. They have been sporadically on and off during startup for months then would be fine and stay on. Now not coming on at all. Checked bulbs both are good. Checked fuses and relays and all good. Removed hibeam/low beam switch assembly and cleaned the contacts with alcohol and q-tips.  Still no worky. Any advice welcomed thanks!

The link to the repair procedure works but the pictures referenced in that procedure are unavailable. It appears that www.valhalla-six-guns.com (which hosts the pictures) is no longer up. Maybe someone else has them and can post them?

You're inspecting the copper nubbies in the start button. The copper nubbies bridge the headlight contacts in the start button when the
start button isn't pressed in (default position). By design, the headlight circuit runs through the start button to shut off the headlights during start up, so forth.






Bad bridge .....


..... or the headlight wires are frayed and hanging on by a few strands.



If you've never taken the start button apart, a nylon box houses the start button and the stationary contact plate.
Just release the 4 barbs from their 4 slots to separate the parts.

Glad to hear it's working. This problem usually doesn't happen on an IS, since it uses relays to power the head light, it doesn't put all that power through the starter switch, therefore less heat.

I was going to suggest head lights burnt out.
