Rear Shock Bad?

What is the preferred method for checking rear shocks? Is it similar to the 1-1/2 bounce like on a car?  I have 155,000 miles on the original shocks that came with the bike. (98 standard)  The ride seems OK but I don't have another Valkyrie to compare it to.  It's the first and only bike I've ever had. I bought it new in 2000 and was wondering if they are worn out or not.  Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

The thing to look for first is fluid leak-down. (like on the inside where you didn't wash)

Age and miles will also fail at some point, even without observable leak-down.  But first, crank them down harder.

I replaced my rear shocks when I went over my bike this year, and I have the OEM shocks in the box that my new shocks came in.  My bike and the shocks only have 10K miles on it, if you want to replace yours with OEM shocks, let me know!

155K on the shocks.......I would just out right say it's time for new shocks. You would be surprised when you put new ones on and say "Oh I forgot that's what it's supposed to feel like.".

You get to use to just riding on springs which I'm betting is what you are doing right now?

Shock bushings could be worn out also.

And Redeye have Neoprene replacements. I installed them by usina 3/8" bolt and washer setup. Do not use lubricant as mentioned by Red Eye.
