I got my Phat Gurl back from Wood Butcher today!!!!! Newer Engine (54,000 miles vs 133,000 miles) There was nothing wrong with the old one, but there was a transmission problem. Lots of noise, and about 1/8" play in and out on the Main Shaft. Cheaper and easier to replace the engine instead of splitting the cases, since the Engine and Trans are all together. Now she is quiet and as usual, runs like a Swiss watch. The Cruise Control works great, the new LOUD Horns would intimidate an 18 wheeler, and I am VERY Happy.

We so miss the Valk whispers we have lost either to retirement or full loss. Thankfully there are some that do this work, labor of love actually.   Sorry Don I missed a beat here but glad you have the outcome you want.

Nice rejuvenation Don,  she should be good for another 700k milesor more.      :o

I forgot to mention the new clutch, a 12V power point with 2 5A USB Ports, and servicing the Rear Drive. He said that all the parts back there are in excellent condition. He does an absolute EXCELLENT wiring job. It really looks like it came from the factory when he gets done.

I didn't know about your bike issues, Glad to hear your back on the road. Patti and I hope to see you soon on one of our long awaited group rides. I'll be retiring on 7-2-21 maybe we can get some middle of the week rides.

Hi, Don.  Wood must be an excellent mechanic with lots of knowledge about Valkyries.  It's nice to see that some of us are still keeping the ol' gurls alive as long as possible.  There may come a time when I might get a new or newer bike, but I don't think I will ever find one that I like as much as my Valkyrie.  Take care and hope to see you on a RTE soon.

Trying to keep my bike going for a few hundred k;  who is this woodsman?

OLDFRT

Wood Butcher is a Member of VRCC, but may or may not respond to PMs sent on this forum. He is no longer on FB, but is a member of MeWe. That is where I made contact with him. He does EXCELLENT work, as he is very meticulous. He will do things over again if he thinks it really didn't come out the way he wanted.

It is a '97 Tourer.

thanks.
I always try to keep track of usual wear item/condition per yr. like I had with the damper clutch plate in my '98 at 40k miles.

The theory behind the Transmission troubles was that a previous clutch wore out and some of the ceramic made it's way into the trans and took out a bearing/seal, allowing the shaft to move. The noise was from the clutch hitting the back of the case on the inside. it went away when the clutch lever was pulled in, disengaging the clutch. It is completely noise-free, now.

Glad you got your Valk back Don :cooldude:

Wood is definitely a guy you can trust to do the job right, I was keeping up with his progress as he was working on your bike and he showed all he did to it.   :cooldude:
