Leather vest use

I don't know the history of the vest with/without patches. I haven't found the use for that article of clothing. Yesterday I saw an HD rider wearing one here in AZ. It was 107 and drier than a popcorn fart. WTH!!

I have a leather vest, plain with no patches etc. It's been really good all winter and has enabled me to go without a jacket while riding all winter.

People think it's mostly really warm for riding in San Diego, truth is it's chilly riding here most of the time near the coast with a damp marine layer. The vest along with layered shirts are good to mid forties I'd say, below that I'll wear a jacket, especially for longer rides.

I don't get wearing one in the heat though..

Cover garment. Cell phones holder. The plural is not a Mistake. The unpatched one for civilian use. Patched for the bike. Although this last weekend with the 97-100 temperatures the patched vest stayed in the closet. Mesh jacket was the order of the day.

    I have patches and pins that go back to the Motocross Club I joined while in The U S Navy while stationed in Japan. I also KNOW no one will give a damn bout my cut after I die. There have been days It was too warm to wear it But at a P G R Mission I'll make an exception. RIDE SAFE.

I have several vests.  I rarely wear them.  It's either cool enough for a light jacket (even mesh), or it's too hot for anything but a long sleeve T.   My favorite vest is a weathered cotton duck Carhartts.

I don't feel particularly better protected by a Tshirt and vest versus just a Tshirt.  We don't get a lot of in between weather for vests.

I don't wear patches of any kind.  I do still have all my Boy Scout merit badges (like maybe 15) and mile swim badge, and they might be pretty cool on a vest.

I have four different vests, two for dress up and two leather. Haven't worn them in years and was looking at them recently and noted they all have shrunk just hanging in the closet. Guess I'll have to work on that after I get back to the hovel.

Shrunk?  Yeah John, that's it.   I have a bunch of shrinking clothes.

In the business world, your resume shows your experience and what you do.  In the motorcycle world, the vest serves that purpose.  Obviously, a Goldwing Granny and some guy who would tear your arm off are going to have different things on their vests.  The vest can identify "friend or foe".

I have seen them all, and never had one.

I hung up my colors when the VSG had its' run in with the Bandidos, decided I didn't wanna play in that arena (Mine has VSG colors on it)

One possibility why someone might wear a vest, patched or not, in hot weather is they make a good method of CCW while riding.

I have a leather vest I let someone (a short blonde lady) at an InZane talk me into buying and then said you're gonna need a VRCC Patch on the back of that.    At that point, I knew I'd been had......   

It's hanging in some closet around here, I honestly don't see much value in a vest but, to each their own.

mmm...the old "reverse vest " option, eh? I have a good quality leather vest that I wear UNDER my jacket as a cold weather layer. It does have a VRCC patch and a F6 Valkyrie patch on it,  but I rarely if ever ride with just the vest on...or wear it on its own otherwise.

I wear a leather vest even in the heat. The vest allows airflow that a jacket won't and I like to think will somewhat protect me better than a Tshirt whether it be gravel or rain.

I have a vest, a rather puffy one.  It is worn only when the temps go down to a certain level.  fits nicely inside my riding jacket.  No patches, but does have a blade and fire starter in the pockets.

I almost always wear my vest. It holds my MP3 player and covers my concealed carry well. I have also met other bikers when away from the bike because of the vest. It's an individual choice not for everyone I guess

A couple of mine were purpose-designed for this.

Cross-draw with weapon in one side pocket/holster and spare mags in the other. My vests can make a full-size 1911 disappear with ease and not print.
