Seeking Advice.....

Hello All,

My 2001 Interstate with 111,000 miles has now become my "Project Bike" (long story). After not looking for a motorcycle for over 20 years, I am now in the market.  I looked at a 2014 Honda Goldwing Valkyrie today with 18,773 miles on it.  It was at a dealer that does not permit test rides on used bikes.  Any feedback you can offer is greatly appreciated. I know some of you are familiar with this bike.  Thanks in advance. (I posted this on the General Board also)

I have a 2014 Valkyrie and a 2000 Valkyrie Intersate. I love them both!
However, the 2014 has better brakes, suspension, and the fuel injected 1800 is hard to beat!
I would highly recommend the new Valkyrie. I have mine set up with the OEM windshield, Corbin bags, and Corbin seat. I won't be getting rid of these bikes any times soon!

I had to buy footpegs that were a lower position so I could get my Bates boot toe under the gear lever for upshifts.

That's all I did.

The PO put on risers which meant moving the speedo cluster up slightly. There's web info on how to do that. Kept original cables.

A wing rear wheel so a car tire could be used.

He also fitted a windshield and Honda bags.

Having fuel injection and 3 piston front brakes is great.

Putzing along the BRP returns m.p.g in the low 50's. Highway speed in the very low 40's.

It's a rocket ship compared to a 1500.

Well, I bought the 2014 Valkyrie. Have had it a couple of months and love it! There was no maintenance records and no manual. For those reasons I have some questions for all of you that own one of these bikes. I have been reading many of your posts and have gained a lot of knowledge, but would appreciate your continued help in certain areas:

Is there a detailed manual available for servicing the bike? (or a link to one)
Do you need to remove the front lower cover to change the oil and filter?
What oil are you using? (I know, I know....)
OEM brake pads are 3X the price of others (like Sixity) Is there a big difference?

As always, thanks for all your input. I'm sure I will have more questions as time goes on....

You do not need to remove the lower cover. It can be fiddly with a long oil filter. I used Supertech 6607. Yeah, yeah I know itsa whole thread in itself.
Sixity work fine for zooming around the mountain roads.

I bought a paper one from a seller on Ebay for $48. It's nice to have that in the garage.
