Actual function of IGNITION COIL and connections

Hello. I realize the ignition coils use a waste/dual spark system. I also realize that it's just a HV transformer timed to pulse on when called to fire.

Does anyone have the pinout/wiring pins and the input voltage/type (DC, 12V input right?) for the transformers?

I'm looking to use one of these in a side project (coils) and am hoping to wire one up to use for the purpose of making spark for the duration of a momentary push button.

You're also going to need a way to fluctuate the power to coil on and off. The coil will only spark once when the power is turned on and off. If you're not running it off a battery, use an ac transformer, not dc. That will give you a constant on/off.

A high voltage AC transformer, like a fluorescent sign transformer will work. With the output sent to a small gap, and the transformer energized, it will continually arc. Like the "Jacob's ladder" you see in the old sci-fi flicks. They just hook two diverging rods to the output. When it arcs, it climbs the V due to heat, until it cant jump the gap any more. Then it starts over. An old sign transformer will put out something like 15000 VAC.

For $4 plus the cost of a momentary switch and a couple nuts & bolts you could take the electronics out and connect the leads to the bolts as a spark gap.  When momentary switch is depressed it sparks.
