I am planning a trip which requires that I go to Richmond, VA.  I have a way of getting there from the western part of VA but I am looking for ideas on a nice rural route back home (Newberry, SC)

I have searched a couple of the "bike roads" websites without much success.  So, if anyone has suggestions  I would like to hear them.

Oh, I would like to keep the travel distance to 500 miles or less.

Ok, based on some suggestions from another forum, I set the standards in my mapping software to ignore most of the roads except for "normal" roads and got this route.

Only problem is finding a place for the wife and I to stop on the way.  Still working on that.

Thanks Pluggy, I shall put that on the map and see how it looks.

Update:  Ok.. I have added the points and will try and make a route.  My daughter use to live in Greensboro so, we have a back woods route home from there and if I can make your route work we will probably just spend the night in the Greensboro area.  Nice place and she will know some good places to say (works on the "hospitality" industry).

Ok... Here is the route generated.  As I stated I have a back way home from Winston Salem area.

Really.   I like BBQ.  But that name would not have enticed me.  Too bad because Farmvile will only be 65 miles into our trip south.  Got any BBQ places near South Boston?

Ok.. just wondering.  We don't always stop for lunch on the road.  Maybe stop for a snack and a drink and head on.  But I do like BBQ.

Once we found a nice BBQ place somewhere in rural New York State.  Not bad for New York.

Also one in PA, Henry's BBQ.  Its still there just looked it up.  We stopped there in the summer of 2014.  I was on my ST1300 and my friend was on a Wing.  I hit a deer with the ST on the interstate that trip.  Just broke some plastic.  I was, as they say, lucky.

This route looks better.

I was going to suggest that you avoid the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill area. The traffic there is a nightmare.

If you spend the night in Greensboro this is a good restaurant:

The location on Big Tree Way is the one that we've been to a few times.

There's a Hilton Garden Inn directly across the street.

Thanks 3Fan4Life, we are not much into seafood but any suggestions are appreciated.

We are going to stop over in Winston Salem because its sort of on the route.   Funny, the place I picked was a Hilton Garden Inn and they have an on-site restaurant which is always good for breakfast.
