Harley shocks

Will shocks off a Harley Davidson fit on a Valkyrie? Mine are shot and there seems to be a lot more HD shocks on Craigslist than Valkyrie

Probably not.  The issue is the top and bottom mount points (and bushings).  Not the length.

Why would you replace bad shocks with used shocks? I would buy something new.

As I recall, the Progressive Suspension 412s are a decent Valk replacement shock, and can be had under $300.  Nothing fancy, but new.

Used Progressive #412's on the 1100 Spirit. Very harsh and started to leak in 3 mos. and they weren't the HD version either.

I see a lot of 13" Harley touring air shocks listed on the auction site from time to time. Some of these are low-mileage takeoffs.

What are the bushing/mount differences between our shocks and those? FWIW, Progressive sells a bushing and collar kit which may be cannibalized for enough stuff to get the H-Ds to work.

Been giving some thought to trying a pair on my I/S, as I've already run the air lines from a fairing-mounted compressor.

GL1100 shock fit. just have to change the metal sleeve in the one eyelet to fit the valkyrie.  
the '83 has heavy springs and I feel is the only one to use unless the springs are changed for the '81-'82 models.  

the same progressive 416 air shock is used for the GL1100, Valkyrie and GL1500. the only difference is the eyelet sleeves which can be changed out.

the early 416 was chrome, I was able to get a set that was installed on a GL1100. I don't know when progressive went to the polished aluminum body 416, but I think it was sometime in the late '80s when the GL1500 came out.

These are Interstate shocks painted black with carbon fiber like vinyl. I've grown to like them a lot

That's the gotcha.

My Tourer wears the shocks from my second I/S (~30k miles accrued) and they're still working. For how long will be anyone's guess. I'll eventually have to replace them.

The I/S was converted to air suspension and its Progressive 416s are decent performers, though I'm always tinkering.

I just did the front and was going to adjust the preload in the rear (new owner).

Wondering about the most feasible replacements and even if they are necessary.

You should be good for at least double, triple that. But if you decide to buy something else, I would buy those from you.

a long time.  the upper bushings wear out, less so if replaced with poly bushings. Redeye sells them, best price out there and he spec'd out a very good poly material.
