Hope somebody can help, since I haven't been able to post much because of this.

Whenever I get so many lines or characters, the Message Posting part starts scrolling up on me.  This is the only board where I have this problem.  I have to preview it to see what I just put in.  Any ideas on how I can get this to stop?  Have tried to post on multiple computers and all do the same.  Again, this is the only board that it happens on.

After a few lines, whatever I type in is beneath the box and it scrolls back up to where the scrolling started.

HELP!!!!!!

My posting of London would have been much longer except for this problem - been having it for a few months now. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

My results:

IE8: Typing eventually causes a slider to appear on the right side of the edit box and I have to slide up and down to see all of my text.

Mozilla FireFox 3.0: Same thing.

Safari 4.0: I have a choice to use the slider that appears OR I can simply click and drag the edit box to a longer/larger size to see all of my typing without scrolling.

I don't know what causes it but this is how I fixed it.

I open this site, I open WORD.

I type my post with all the links and crap into a WORD document.

Then I cut and paste into the VRCC board, and post it.

I suspect it is in IE 8.

I backed off to IE 7 to see if it would stop my losing the WIN32 address for Internet service........  That didn't stop, but the scrolling when posting did...........

+1 on RJ's solution

If I have a long post I always use word first, it checks spelling and such as that. then I just copy and paste

I dont have the scrolling problem, yet

Using a four year old 'puter with XP, cable hook-up and the ISP is AOL. I've typed some rather long-winded items and works fine for me. But then my mother always told me I was special!   :crazy2: :uglystupid2:

Ok, this is new to me too.  Can someone give me a configuration that this is happening on?  I don't see any of these problems on my end.  Actually, still not sure what you are talking about?

What theme are you using?  Is it the default theme?  Does it change if you use one of the other themes?

Ok, I finally replicated this problem with IE8 which I didn't have installed since I use Firefox.  My searching found that this is a bug in the IE8 rendering engine.  Solution #1:

If you are using IE8, from the menu of IE8, select Tools: Compatablity View.  This will force the IE7 Rendering engine to take over.  You will probably loose what is in the text area so do this before you type your post.

I will look for a layout solution(problem is fluid layout of text area...which IE8 can't render properly).

I don't get this problem in Firefox, Safari or Chrome.

Ok, I applied a fix to the text area.  Report back and tell me if you continue to have problem with replying or creating posts.

Scott,
Now the test box is extremely wide in Firefox (3.5.7) using the default theme, for me at least... I have to scroll waaaaaaay to the right to get to the "Post/Preview" buttons...

I know... can't make everyone happy, but wanted to point out the new odd behavior...

I've had that problem intermittently at times, but only at work. I figured it was on their end. Doesn't happen at home. Happened when I ran IE or Mozilla at work.

Thanks for helping Scott.

I was afraid of that Serk.  I'll fix.

Typing in word and cut-pasting in from Word still works even when the site won't let you see below the water line. Takes an extra step, but it is an easy fix on the user end.

Ok, huge text box fixed for Firefox users.  (It will require a forced reload to get the new css)

Freakin IE, I hate it. For 7 versions they ignored web standards, now in IE8...they decide to support the W3 Std...with bugs.

IE 8 users, use the compatability view option. (let me know if that works!)

I turned compatibility mode off and it still has the issue.
But thanks for the tip, When IE8 suggested compatibility mode, I just accepted it without knowing what it was.

I sure wish somebody would help this dumb Person understand what you all are talking about.  :uglystupid2:

Well, I can't seem to find a solution to the IE problem.  Everything I've tried has failed, except the Compatibility Mode trick.

I'll keep looking....

Scott, I switched to another theme - like the Temp Board and it seems to take away the scrolling thing.  Good call bro!  It seems like the standard theme gave me the problem with IE 8.  Will see if this works - is so, you done good as always brother!  :cooldude: :cooldude:

Seriously, I have been having a problem for months (and only here).  Couldn't post a long post with images.  May have been rectified with the change of themes.  THANKS!  The change of themes may have corrected it. :cooldude:

Bummer - still have the same scrolling problem.  IE-8. :'( :-\

Strider, might be a simplistic solution, but can you switch to Firefox? Or Chrome? Or... Well... anything but IE??

You probably did!!!  (rolling eyes).

OK Scottie.

Question for ya.

Ya no like Microcrappy Word, so what do you recommend?

Also, IE 8 & IE 7 issues.

Take IE 8 off the box and use IE 7 again.

I've not had any real serious problems since doing that.

Also it seems to have cleareed up my Winsock issue, loosing the I/net.

Must be winter, everybody is getting ouchy........

I was just letting Big Ivy and you know that not everyone has Word(its not free and doesn't come free on new computers), so thats not a great solution.  You shouldn't have to copy/paste your post into the board.  One solution was the compatability view mode in IE8.  The other is to get rid of the malware/spyware/virus risk that is Internet Explorer completely.  Strider for example gave Google Chrome a try and it worked great for him.  If you use Firefox, you have a better experience in general, and spell check built in.

In the end, I have to come up with a solution to Microsoft's problem on OUR end.  I just haven't found that solution.

I'm as grouchy as the next person Russ, we still have snow on the ground.  Not good for Oklahoma this time of year.
