A new customer presents me with a busted up family heirloom chair. Seems two of her sons were wrestling and well you can see the result.

So most of it is straightforward. Dig out a couple broken dowels replace them and epoxy back together. Except there is a crucial piece missing

So the epoxy is drying, straps will come off in the morning

So I just got done sculpting some epoxy wood filler. Tomorrow I get to sand it to perfection and then color match the stain.

More to come

What kind of epoxy or whatever did you use... this stuff
is great, I think...

This is a two part epoxy filler that can be molded like clay. It's very easy to make complex shapes. The two products are probably very similar.

Well. Artistic sanding and staining finished for today. The hard part is getting the color right for after the poly coat because it all changes. I think I'm close

As it's drying it's blending in nicely. After I spray with poly it should be right on.

A slight touch up this morning and I think I'm there. This is it

pretty darn close to perfect as OEM.  Can still see the color difference of the patch but hardly at all.  Much better than I could do for sure.

I know but looking over the rest of the chair. The same two colors contrast in multiple places so it seemed like I should let it be.

agree totally is solid and able to use that is what matters the most

Are the other places due to the original pieces being from different pieces of wood?

Looks nice!!

Nice work :cooldude: Must be very satisfying.
If you can't be a good example: be a WARNING!!

Yes. But it's the lighting that exaggerates the contrasting colors it looks right as can be.

Thanks guys. I can't wait to see what challenges the new year brings for my business. Never a dull moment as they say.

Chair delivered. It looked better than some of the others. Customer happy that's what counts right!?!

Just curious, what do you charge for a repair like that.  Very nice work by the way.  From what I could see in the picture, the repair like a joint between two different pieces of wood.

Well, to answer your question that would normally be $100 plus any cost and extra for pick-up/delivery.  But, this customer is a single granny raising 4 grandkids on her own, and it was the holidays so I cut her a break. With pick up and delivery I charged her $60.

I agree.  BTW that seems like a reasonable prince even with out the senior discount.

Very nice. kudos on all accounts. I'm always impressed with fine woodworking. As a retired metalworker by trade, I'm usually a disaster when I venture into a wood project. I just don't think wood like I do metal.

This was my end of year/Holiday project for my grandkids. It's mostly wood with some metal and Bondo added in. It looks great from 5 feet away. Yours passes the closeup test. Happy New Year and much success with your business
