This is incredible. I would buy this before any electric vehicle. Look at the weight to hp ratio. and minimal moving parts.

That is very interesting technology!  I doubt that a gasoline fueled model will see much if any use but a hydrogen fueled model might.  Although, the trouble with hydrogen is that you cannot pack as much chemical energy in a small space like you can with gasoline or diesel.

Why wouldn't that gas model be of great use?

Politics!
If the gasoline does not burn completely and cleanly, it will produce carbon that will significantly reduce the life of the engine.  Even so, the major problem for a gasoline fueled engine will be politics.  Not science or wisdom, but politics.

Saw this the other day.

My first thought was how much fun it would be on a motorcycle!

That is amazing technology. It looks like these guys actually have the experience and ability to get it to market. The specs on this thing are awesome. You can stack them together for more horsepower. So 2 of them is 61 Lbs. and 340 HP and so on.

Interesting concept, will be interesting to see if it really works... I notice all they have our CGI renderings of the engine, doesn't look like a real one has yet been made as far as I can tell...

Never ask a geek 'Why?',just nod your head and slowly back away...

In the 10 min promo vid, near the end, they show a prototype firing up.

I'm trying my get my head around transfer of power to the ground.

I watched the video. I still don't really understand how this engine works. It kind of seems like a hybrid Wankel engine. But with multiple firing chambers.

Yeah, I agree, the example is somewhat vague in the firing process.

I had to stop the vid and study it a little and I think I understand it some.

If I got it right, it has just one firing chamber that compresses the fuel/air while moving it to the firing chamber and moving the exhaust of the last firing out at the same time.

Yes, back in October they announced they are putting all of their efforts into releasing an electric version. So, the people who put in their deposits for the sub $8000 gas burner will have to wait even longer.  The "new" electric will start production towards end of 2022 (I'm gonna go out on a limb and say 4th quarter of never).  Electric version is around $14000, I think.  By the way, original release date was in 2012.....

Well, technically the Sparrow was made.  Elio has only made a prototype and some t-shirts!

There's another video on youtube that goes into detail on how it works and shows an actual engine running (albeit briefly).

Avanti

I did not see the data on hp and torque curve throughout the rpm range. Need a working model in a test cell for a few hundred hours.

CajunRider

Well... it's not an actual torque curve, but to give you a rough idea...

HP = Torque x RPM / 5252

Extrapolate that out... Torque = HP * 5252 / RPM

Torque = 160 x 5252 / 25000 = a whopping 33.61 ft*lb

So basically, this ain't no Harley!!!  :D

But rev it up and you may be able to have some fun.
