Bluebonnet Time

Saw my first patch of bluebonnets yesterday in Chapel Hill at my sisters house.  Wont be long till my favorite time of the year.....good weather, great country roads...and lots of bluebonnets to see.

We just got our (hopefully last) snow blizzard yesterday.

The Texas State Flower, the Bluebonnet, is only blooming in March, April, and May, then they go to seed.   We have good Bluebonnet years and we have bad years.   I dont know why that is so but on good years the country side is absolutely beautifull and a real pleasure to take a ride down the backroads and see the fields full of Bluebonnets.   At the same time as the Bluebonnets another flower blooms called "Indian Paint Brushes".  It is an orangish-red flower.  Mix the two wildflowers together and on a good flower year it is absolutely beautiful out in the country side.  While in full bloom I try to get away at least 2 or 3 times a week to go see the sights.

taking the Texas Forest trail  from nearby Canton to Palestine was great yesterday--Red bud should be great next weekend

Best Bluebonnet ride is north of Fredericksburg to Willow City Loop.  This time of year, its great.  Only problem is lots of other folks making the drive.  They pull the cars over, get the kisd out and take pictures with the kids out in the flowers.  Gotta be careful.

 I also enjoy the Althaus/Davis rd.  I does turn to dirt road several miles in.  It starts about 7 miles past  Willow City on RR 1323.

Rode Brenham & Independence and New Ulum area today and there is a respectable number of wild flowers out but not recordbreaking numbers.   Good ride...perfect weather.  13 yr old grandson rode with me....great bonding time...over a good cheeseburger basket at Yankees in Carlos, T
