that I am waiting for parts. My front tire and rear brakes looked like this after our Polar Bear Run on Jan.-2. Knew I almost needed a new front tire, just didn't realize it could get this bad that quick. I did a pre trip inspection and it didn't have any bare spots, 400+ miles later this is what it looks like now.
My new tire should come in this Thursday. Replacing the Metzler with an Avon.


My rear brake pads are also used up, parts in inventory/stock.  i am going to have my own wrench party this weekend.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

Curious...do you know your total mileage on that Metzeler?  And maybe the age?...could be good info to pass on...

I like the way your tire shows the classic left side road grade wear.

That front tire's got plenty of rubber left on the right side - why not just flip it around and go for a few more miles?

This is a good reminder for everyone. 

Once a tire is judged to be near the end of it's useful life, it is often only a few hundred miles to past its useful life and unsafe.  I've done the same thing and last time, hopped on the throttle in a turn, and the rear of the bike walked up to meet the front.  All bike tires are the same in this regard.  The end comes much faster than ordinary wear.

I changed it about a year ago and that means I got about 10000-12000 miles on this tire. The Dunlop before got me about 14500 miles and it wear pattern was a lot better. The thing that I noticed with the Metzler it started cupping and making noise when cornering about 4000 miles ago. I am not going back to that tire unless i donn't have a choice. My new Avon should be here tomorrow

That front tire's got plenty of rubber left on the right side - why not just flip it around and go for a few more miles?

Thanks for the info 5_19.  I have the Dunlop E3's on the Valk and Metzelers on my wife's Shadow (VT1100 Spirit).  No problems with either.  My rear E3 is coming up on 10,000mi and is showing some cupping...that could be because I was running too low of pressure for the first 6,000mi.  The Metzelers have only around 3,000mi and I suspect will last a pretty good while on the lighter Shadow.

Both sets of tires do sing in the turns...different tones, though!

we've had dunlops. avon and metzlers on the front, seems like the metzler is lasting longer and redneck likes them better, course goodyear on the back really helps a lot, make sure you're running the right pressure up front, some people think a lower pressure is good, but it just leads to tire problems, but we only have  77691 miles on "DragonBrethe" so what do we know???????

Like others have said, if yer close to the end of the tires tread, it goes away quickly...

I know from experience, and it caused the first ever trailer ride for my lady.

Last years CBR.  Pre trip inspection said 'I should be OK'...  Made the 300 mile ride, and while gassing up, during the ride Saturday morning, I saw the dreaded 'cords'...  You could just about see the air through the tire (rear). 

Good thing for me, my buddy Daryl, from XF6Customs and Glen, of Woodys Fairings, had taken Daryls 40' Goose Neck trailer, so they could bring some of their goodies, along with their bikes.  He had a third chock in there, and he got me to within 30 miles of my house...

It was an E3, with about 15K on it.  Replaced it the following day.  From now on, for me at least, close will not be good enough.

That's the size, TJ.  The Venom R was replaced by the Cobra.

Ithink I was one of the first people to run the Cobra tire on the front. I really like it. Seems to be wearing good. It really makes the bike steer really well. It is hard to explain, but finally others have reported the same with this tire.

I'll add my .02¢ about the Venon R; I felt like I was on a different (re: better) bike when I went for my first ride after installing it.  She leans easier and corners better with the Venom tire.  The Metz that was on the front was cupped and howled like a banshee when cornering at high speed.

I agree with you on the "it's hard to explain" I really like this tire and what it did for the handling of my bike during the first 350+ miles this weekend.  Never knew a tire could make that much difference, and it looks good~TJ
