A general comment/query to the board at large:

In mid April I ordered a few things from one of my usual online parts vendors (I use several OEM supply houses). Included in the manifest were items such as intake runner insulators, sealing washers and so forth.

As a matter of habit I also pad any order with frequently used service spares (filters, seals, bearings and whatnot) to get over the free shipping total. That way I always have a source of consumables for the most routine or frequently done jobs on-hand.

This particular order was on hold until last week, due to the air filter element being on back-order from Japan - and with no ETA. I finally had them ship everything else and the filter element when it arrives...if it arrives.

Am I the only one who's seen this? Fortunately, I have a few OEMs new-in-packaging, and a couple K&Ns plus prefilters if need be. I think there may be a couple Uni foam filters in my stash too, so I'm covered - but WTF?

Looks like new u-joints are getting hard to find as well.  If they don't start producing more they could become a valuable barter item in the Brave New World.

Nothing mechanical, but I did order a new passenger backrest OEM back in May and was told it was on backorder from Japan as well.

On ebay, oddly, aftermarket filters are more expensive than oem. Service Honda sells the air filter for $20 (17210-MZ0-000).

Yeah, three weeks today to get some parts shipped that were originally 'in stock'. I will do like you and order some 'back stock' so I don't run out.

I wanted to order new spark plug wires for my Interstate and all the parts houses were out of stock. Each Honda plug wire you have to order separately and you can't order a complete set of 6. All 6 plug wires were all sold out, not one wire was available and I didn't want used from eBay.

I ended up ordering Accel #3008 7mm. universal spark plug wires that John Schmidt did a writeup on and now I have to make my own wires. I did save $150 Honda vs Accel. Thanks John for the PDF writeup.

I wanted to order new spark plug wires for my Interstate and all the parts houses were out of stock. Each Honda plug wire you have to order separately and you can't order a complete set of 6. All 6 plug wires were all sold out, not one wire was available and I didn't want used from eBay.

I ended up ordering Accel #3008 7mm. universal spark plug wires that John Schmidt did a writeup on and now I have to make my own wires. I did save $150 Honda vs Accel. Thanks John for the PDF writeup.

OEM wires don't really wear out. they are copper core wires with a resistor in the spark plug end cap. a design honda has been using for decades across its line of cycles.  GLs with 200k+ miles still running.

the accels u bought pretty much wear out in less than 50k miles.

Well I have a intermittent miss in one cylinder and I have new spark plugs, carbs synced, valves check. When I got my yearly safety inspection done, my buddy, the mechanic/owner/dirt car racer, right away told me I had a bad spark plug wire.

It's odd that I can't purchase new Honda spark plug wires anywhere online, so someone has replaced spark plug wires. My Interstate is 23 years old and if the new plug wires only last 50k miles and cost $45 and my time to rebuild them, if it fixes my intermittent miss, I'll be happy.

could be the resister in the plug cap, or the end going into the coil, connection is not good. wires are held in with a plastic compression fitting setup.

The Honda Service Manual mentions that a Broken or shorred spark plug wire might cause
any number of problems (I guess they meant to say "shorted" ) ...

Anywho... your buddy and and the service manual think you might be on to something.

One good way of checking is to start the bike up at night or in a dark space and look for sparks jumping off the wire. You can make your own wires too.

I tried your suggestion, but I have a little bit of chrome that make viewing the spark plug wires a little hard.
When I rebuild the spark plug wires I look for sparks before I assemble everything.
Sorry for the dirt, I just pulled it onto my trike lift to clean.

Have you ohmed out the plug wires to know which one is bad?  There is a way to rebuild plug wires, I have a pdf copy of the write up  John Schmidt made that used to be on shoptalk.

Just getting ready to start the project next week when the wires arrive. Yes, I know about
using the ohm meter and I have a copy of how John Schmidt did his. I also have a set of
old OEM wires for extra parts if have a bad resister.
