Exhaust End Caps..

what are everyone using that have the 4" OD tail pipes on their scoots?
looking maybe to quieting down my vikings a little.  thanks

I got a set of silencers from MarkT, held in place by a single small bolt. I placed them far enough inside so as to hide them and still have a nice low rumble...not Vikings though. I got mine years ago from a guy in NH, he used to cut down the stock muffler giving it a deeper throaty sound, but was a bit more than I wanted so used the silencers. Still sounds good, just not as loud.

I have a pair of Hardin Marine 4" silencers I have not tried yet. You may want to give them a look.

Is there such a thing as longer standard silencer end caps? I only ask as the standard silencers can leave a bit of "dirt" at the bottom end of the tourer panniers.
Longer ones would get past that.
Presumably there'd also be a difference in exhaust tone.

Interstate tips are shorter than Tourer/STD tips. The piggies are different, though.

I had Interstate pipes on my Tourer for a while, your idea about longer tips (and longer piggies)
is correct, they are a little quieter.

I have OEM "triple tips" on there now. I modified the piggies on them to come all the way
to the end. If you can find tubes with the right inner diameter that matches the outer
diameter of the piggies, the rest is easy...





As I'm typing this I'm remembering how piggies for Interstate pipes are
"twisted"... for my mod, straight (easy) piggie extensions were needed.
Anywho... Interstate tips are easy to find...

I appreciate that you can extend the piggies, though I'm considering leaving them as they are and just extending the cap, unless, for some reason, I'd have to extend the piggies.

Tourer tips, and they like the look. It just occurred to me that the Big Bike Things guy
has chrome piggy extenders that would probably fix the soot-on-the-saddlebags problem...

Have just double checked and taken a pic.



The top of the End Cap is around 4" from the back of the pannier and around 5 and 1/2" from the chrome "cage".
I've got a feeling that those shiny piggy extenders would still be chucking a bit of soot on said panniers.
Now I don't have sooty plugs and I don't mind oeriodically giving the panniers a wipe.
If anyone knows of longer End Caps without me changing the whole exhaust then please "post" the options.

Be advised Spacer 4 should not have a gap at the top (vrs. bottom pic). You may need to bend the appendage up, don't know.

I did the same thing with copper pipe from Lowe's. Total cost was under $20

All the ones I made have the holes, I don't have a way to weigh them, but they are not very heavy.

I have a set of grumpy's with the holes just never got around to buying the ones without holes that he had.
