How to get 40+ mpg

The 188 mile ride I led this past Saturday up, down and around, around the roads of NE GA saw a 52 m.p.g return on my 2014 Valkyrie.

Wow.. time for me to get a new bike

At my normal zoom zooming speed it's about 43 - 45 m.p.g.

The first day of leading a group from MN a few weeks ago it was closer to 60 m.p.g.

Is there anything not to love about the F6? More horsepower, more torque, no carburetors, better fuel mileage.. I saw two F6's in my area for sale, both were 2014, selling at $14,000.. One of them has around 5,000 miles on the odometer if my memory is correct.

2014/15 F6C's can be seen for much less if not in a rush to buy.

No rush at all, I still really enjoy my standard. With the bigger tire on the rear I get 30+ without trying, freeway speeds here can be pretty fast and I don't feel safe trying to be slower. I like the number 1 lane, don't like vehicles on both sides of me. Most of the time I'm well under 4000 rpm, 3500 or so and my mpg is pretty decent. On the 50 mph back roads I can get up to 36 mpg.. so not too bad.
With the state of the economy I'm not making any unforced errors, hopefully the carnage won't be as bad as I think it's going to be :/

Crossing the country, well some of the country, yesterday and today I got 39 mpg.  I was running interstates almost exclusively at 75 to 85 indicated with a few spikes well above.

My bike is prettier than any Harley I've seen and she goes from 60 to 95 in two quick breaths.  She gets more attention than any Harley Davidson ever could.

You have some tune going on there at those speeds.  I cant even get that putting around at 55.   Your bike is beautiful and no doubt gets a lot of attention.

Willow must be more Aerodynamic than the rest of us.

LOL!  There is some truth to the supposition.  Riding without a windscreen as opposed to the big flat front can provide less resistance especially if the screen is poorly situated.

Yes, I've been wanting a smaller windscreen ( but not NO windscreen) since I first got my Valk. The current one is too tall for me to look over it, and it probably impacts fuel economy some.

The wife and I took a trip this weekend to visit some friends in Madison AL. All our tanks averaged 42.25 MPG in our 2015 Golf TDI - didn't matter if it was Interstate at 75 MPH or 2 lane highway at 60-65 MPH.

On Oct 1, I rode from Albuquerque to Capitan NM for Lunch, back roads 55 to 70 mph,  rode 206.2 miles and put in 4.9 gallons.
On the way home it was lower as I was on I25 for about 80 miles.

Yes, I've been wanting a smaller windscreen ( but not NO windscreen) since I first got my Valk. The current one is too tall for me to look over it, and it probably impacts fuel economy some.

for warmer temps I have used for yrs a memphis shades Hellcat windshield. angled and raised using their taller brackets so the major wind blast is off my body and streams over my helmet. I had to add additional bracing to the lower part of the shield to keep it solid at hwy speeds.
colder weather I now use a wider than the oem shield that I did have, for a rifle shield which is more aerodynamic than the oem.  always saw a 3-4 mpg difference btwn the summer and winter shields, but I always have oversized hand shields, foot shields, baker air wings and larger memphis fork shields installed. the rifel shield dies provide same mpg even at higher speeds than the oem did.

so using a smaller windshield will net at least a 2 mpg increase.

Wow, Im happy with 30.  Thats riding the backroads rockin turns.  Worst I had was 86 to reserve, highway headwind and main sail up. Stock Deluxe Darkside.

I have 2 valk standards the 98 gets 28 to 32 30 mpg the 2003 gets 35-37 both run perfect any idea why that would be  ?
