Night vision goggles/Binoculars

Just started to look at night vision and wanted some information and recommendations from anyone who has them. Wasn't sure if it was worth it to get the more expensive ones or just get the cheap ones.

I have thought about them once or twice.

The only issue I have (well the biggest one) is if you use them on a dark night how will it effect your night vision.  If you just put them up to look around and take them down, how long will it take to adapt to the dark again.

I think that is why the military appears to wear them fully until not needed (an assumption I was a sub sailor). 

Sort of neat to have but....

Again, no experience just theory which may not be correct.

        Red compartment lights at night. Red lens on our flashlights at night. Even when I was younger I needed a couple minutes say after chow hall to get acclimated from white light from chow hall back to night. NOT good walkin off the flight deck or into a parked aircraft.  RIDE SAFE.

What I wonder about, using them in a neighborhood, do the street and house lights wash them out or blind you? 

The ones that go on/in rifle scopes get stupid expensive.  Super bright lights are cheaper (but give away your position).   If I was fighting the Russians in Ukraine (or defending myself out in the boonies), I'd want one. 

For home security, I think lights and cameras are more economical and effective.

Some complained of the brightness of the view blocking night vision for a short time but the viewer does have an adjustable brightness to minimize the problem. Was looking at the Mil spec ones and on the cheaper side was 1500.00 and has the green viewer.

The one I posted has a sensor actually probably similar one to the cams at night. So that gave me an idea. I have a Ring portable cam and the phone so I decided to play around a bit and picked up the cam and started walking around. The view was actually pretty good and the detail was too as I was watching my phone and doing a live feed. Probably about the same as the cheaper end night vision goggles. Funny but could probably make some kind of adapter to secure it.   

The Ring cams and I believe the goggles are not really effected by lights. Since lights on or off they give a pretty good picture and clarity. 

Not a permanent answer but not bad either till I decide on a better setup.

They've come a long way from back when I had to qualify and fly with them.   Today's versions are much better with much higher quality illumination.

I never enjoyed flying NVGs, today's versions might make it better.
