I've been trying not to use it. Now there is a good reason.

Usually it's someone that's already friend. I never respond to friends request or request a friend unless I use messenger to let them know I will be requesting.

I know of at least three cases in the last few months of people who have said they have been "hacked" on Facebook.

Not sure what that means in the way they use the term.

My understanding of the term is that if I was "Hacked" my user name and password would be used by someone to access my account.  Let's say its Facebook.

(As an aside, I use Facebook and MeWe both but MeWe not so much.  It is the only real way I can keep track of what my local governments are doing, especially the town I live in.  So....).

So, when someone on face book says they have been "hacked" I always assumed that they meant their user name and password had been used by someone other than them.

Now, if I clear my memory on my browser and try to log back into Facebook it will see that it's a "new" login and require me to use a passcode sent to my phone.

So, it would seem it would be hard, using this method, for someone to "steal" my identify on Facebook without me knowing of the try.

Also, the only way people can see what I post is if they are friends (I think it's set up that way, never verified it worked that way).

I have seen two "hacks" in the last few weeks and both were "friends" requests from people I was already friends with.   In addition, I don't accept friends request from people I do not know unless I verify the request from someone I know who might know them.  In the past few weeks I have gotten several "friends" requests from people I do not know which I have rejected.   If they were friends of my friends I would expect the "friend" who suggested the "friends" request to let me know in advance.

All the above may not be accurate, just how I think it works.

I know of at least 3 times that my screen name and photos have been copied, then whomever done so sends friend requests to people on my friends list.  It happened again just a few weeks ago.  My friends usually contact me to let me know.

Yes that is what I have seen.  But the question I always have/had was I thought my friend list was sort of locked so I was the only one to see it.

I have not really researched it though.

You're not on FB, are you?  I see some Carolyn person on there that you may know. ;)

You can't do much about the length of your life, so focus on the width.

Most of the facebook hacks these days are account cloning. They just duplicate your account then ask anyone they see on your friends list to be friends. Not sure what they accomplish by doing this other than mass confusion.

That is what I thought and observed as well.
