David Crosby Dead at 81

Another legendary singer/song writer (at least to me) has left this earth. 

I like many of their songs but the one linked below is one of my favorites.  Maybe because it describes the experience of sailing and seeing the heavens that were created for us.   I have never seen the Southern Cross but.... that does not mean I don't relate to the message in this song.

Spent a lot of time listening to all the bands he was in and the music they made. What an era in music and society. RIP David. Thanks for the music, your influence does not go unnoticed.

I have an original 33 1/3 album done by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young that I've never opened. Never have taken it out of the original cellophane wrap. I don't listen to my old record collection any more, wonder what it might be worth, along with some original Brubeck, Getz, George Shearing...plus many others.

I don't listen to my old record collection any more, wonder what it might be worth, along with some original Brubeck, Getz, George Shearing...plus many others.

We don't have one of their albums, to my knowledge, will have to look.  However we did, about three or four years ago, revamp my 1970's Elac Miracord 50 turntable and put it back in service.  On occasion, we listen, not this year yet.  Have several albums on the walls for decoration and something to look at when.....

Just noticed the one on the lower left, first image is Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young Deja Vue.

That's a nice display. You have no idea how long it's been since I've looked at album covers or held a record in my hands.

The days of getting a new album and opening it were just great. Going places like friends houses or friends of friends homes and looking through different collections was always an adventure and if you had time to hang around and listen to or even borrow albums was even better. Opening up a double was a real treat.

There is a store in Columbia, that sells records.  Well most are second hand but they appear to be making some new ones.  I forget the store's name but we have been there a few times.   

It's nice to put on the 33 1/3 record and remember back when I first got the turn table, sometime in 1970 while I was at Nuclear Power School in Bainbridge, MD.   One of the sailors in my class had us over to his apartment one evening and showed off his record player and speakers (Bose).   Couple months later we managed to get our own system.  The speakers, KLH, are still being used, right now, in the "system". 

The picture is from Christmas 1971, Bremerton Washington.  My wife Lynn is in the foreground and the one of the speakers is in the background. Still have the Tobacco Urn as well.
